I've been working with Puppy Precise 5.7.1 for a little while.
I installed it to an old hard drive I had and was running programs no problem - but I don't think I ever configured the video card properly.
I've basically just been muddling along but recently I wanted to figure out how to install Sims 3 and though I have followed a number of suggestions and possibilities with Wine and playonlinux which are mentioned on various threads nothing seems to work.
At best I get to the main menu and there's blank or fuzzy error messages which just force me to quit (sometimes there's a retry button but it doesn't do anything).
I was always suspicious that I didn't have the video card configured properly - I managed to locate a pet package for AMD catalyst 9.3 which is supposed to be right for my card (according to their pdf link here and the AMD site where they go through a selection process with you).
But with that, running sims 3 in a terminal I still get errors - something about open gl etc -
I figured it might be best to start from the beginning - like the idea 'when all else fails read the instructions!' - and try and get the video card working with the best drivers (presumably AMD Catalyst 9.3).
How do I go about doing this?
I have a Radeon X800 GTO with 256 MB sdram (PCI express x16)
Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
