Use "bootflash" with the iso to install to usb;
should have the ldlinux file when finished.

With a clean install that does work. Somehow it stopped working for me so I started from a fresh puppy 5.2 and made all my changes and it still worked. So I went back to a broken setup to ...

Ideas to try:
ISO of Lucid 5.2 is bad download. It does happen. Internet hiccup.
Use the Boot flash program to setup the flash drive.
Reformat and or partition flash drive.
Flash drive needs to be clean for install. Old files mixing with new install. Can cause problems.

That helped! I did ...

Degradation since 246 Beta?

Some differences comparing Lucid Puppy 5.2 to the 246 beta.

With 5.2 when I plug in a USB flash drive the activity light on on the drive flashes twice a second for forever. With 246 it flashes for 15 seconds then stops. In both cases the drive is unmounted. With 5.2 the flashing stops if I mount ...

trapster is exactly right.

The fbpanel time setting has been supplanted by PupCllockset. The fbpanel setting does nothing.

If the laptop has a pcmia slot you could put a wireless card there. That's what I did with a Sharp laptop of about that age. You need to know whether it is type 1 or 2.

Puppy will run okay with 128 Meg of RAM but a modern browser needs more. Try one of the RAM update sites to find the maximum you ...

Going by memory so this may be wrong. Try

/dev/sda1

or

/dev/hda1

or

/mnt/sda1

or

/mnt/hda1

in the box. This is a shotgun answer, sorry, but I think the first will work.

It also suggests editing the file /boot/grub/menu.lst which is not difficult. Click on the sda1 (or hda1) icon to mount ...

Underscore, not dash, in SFS name?

I've been using bootflash in Puppy Lucid 511 to create a flash drive from all the various 5.2 beta ISO files. The drive is formatted and the boot files copied over but the lupu sfs file is never copied. Looking in the bootflash script, it looks for " *-[0-9][0-9][0-9].sfs " but all the beta ISOs ...

midori in Puppy 5.2

The midori browser seems to be installed in 520 but not listed as one of the default browser choices. Typing midori in the console brings up the browser with complaints about libaspell.so.15 and a few icons but it works.

Any reason not to make it an option for Puppy? The Firefox browser sends my ...

I am very happy with Puppy Linux on my Acer Aspire One. Currently using version 517 which is a beta for Puppy Lucid 5.2. I've never had any problems with the display resolution and adding Xorg High has helped the video playback.

It still thinks the SSD is VFAT but a hack is to "Edit Item" on the ...

Puppy CDROM ISO

Would it be possible to add a "Remove CD" pause during the shutdown sequence. One old laptop doesn't have a boot option key so I set CDROM at the top of the boot list in BIOS. I've been using a wire to pop the disk drawer open after power off.

I've had fair luck running lupu-515 from a USB stick on my AspireOne.

Works:

1. Correct 1024x600 resolution at start.
2. Wireless and wireless switch (LED shows activity, not on status).
3. Audio okay but not mute or volume from keyboard.
4. Video is okay use xv.
5. Camera application works - mic ...
