Runs on Precise as well. Unfortunately my old Inspiron 5100, P4 with 512M RAM, is not fast enough to make it playable.

QuakeSpasm, however, which you also provided, runs great on this old computer.

Downloaded quake2 pet extracted and made into a lz4 compressed sfs in tahr and video/no sound. Downloaded the OGG pet and merged that also into the sfs, still no sound. Then found a /usr/share/games/quake2/quake_no_ogg and running that both video and sound are fine. Gameplay is good on this old Celeron D single core with 2GB ram, pupmode 5, nvidia, running on 32" TV 1366x768.

Thanks. Image

Tried this on a slightly newer Inspiron 1150 (P4, 500M RAM) with a slightly faster processor and Quake II runs fine. No opening movie or cut scenes, but maybe they were left out intentionally?

The opening movie is kinda cool. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTb6kEp5GjY

Looks like this is the short free version. If you can find the full version (Windows is fine) then just copy the 175.5M pak0.pak to /usr/share/games/quake2/baseq2 and all the units will be playable.

Thanks cimarron.

As a sfs the pak0.pak weighs in at less than 90MB ?!? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4MbXu ... sp=sharing
