Install Puppy on USB

#1 Post by Gryph »

Every time I installed Puppy with Bootflash installer on my stick and booting it he says "Boot Error", and when I try to install it with universal installer he says "This is not a bootable disk Please insert a bootable floppy and press any key to try again.
Could someone help me with this?

Use gparted. delete all partitions. re-create partition, format fat 32, set boot and LBA flags, try Universal installer again.

Make sure md5sum is OK, and verify burn, first.

when you format using gparted I think you have to make sure you select the bootable flag

If you don't have a linux system in which you can use gparted (last time I checked it is only a linux application), you can use virtualization (VM Player is free; there are others) to boot into linux in a virtual box and use gparted there.

It's not as hard as it sounds. You pretty much install your virtualization software and tell it where your puppy *.iso is and the rest is self-expalantory.

Before you get to that step, try formatting the USB drive to FAT 32 (My Computer --> right click on USB drive letter) and try Universal Installer again.
