How to install Shockwave Flash in Puppy 5.3.1?

#1 Post by strategic_thinker »

I need to install Shockware plug in for my daughter's school work.
Don't mind using any browser. Greatly appreciate if someone can provide instructions.
I have tried Firefox, Chromium and Opera

Thanks and regards.

Download and install this Flash installer.
It will guide you on installing the latest Flash.
After installing pet.
Run from menu-> Internet -> Install Flashplayer.

It was written for Lucid Puppy 528, but should work on others.

The Shockwave plugin doesn't work in Linux.
Unlike Flash, the Shockwave browser plugin is not available for Linux or Solaris despite intense lobbying efforts. However, the Shockwave Player can be installed on Linux with CrossOver or by running a Windows version of a supported browser in Wine (with varying degrees of success).

Possibly can get it working in Wine. HTH.

System requirements, etc.

Q: The difference between the Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players?
A: Shockwave Player displays content created with Adobe Director 11.5 software such as high-performance multiuser games, interactive 3D product simulations, online entertainment, and training applications. By using extensions, developers can extend the capabilities of Shockwave Player to play back custom-built applications.

Flash Player displays content created with Flash Professional CS5. This content includes web applications, website user interfaces, interactive online advertising, and rich Internet applications (RIAs) created using Flex

I have already done that. Youtube flash content seems to be working fine.

Thanks.

Some sites say they want (Adobe) Flash Player, others say Shockwave Flash. What's the difference?

A couple weeks ago videos on Facebook were working but this week it says to update flash player again. I followed the above link and installed but (after a Firefox restart) it still says to update flash.

Did you run menu->internet->Install FlashPlayer?
Follow the directions?

Oops, I missed the run from menu step. I did that and youtube videos still work but even after rebooting Facebook video still isn't working (but doesn't say to update flash) on my Eee 900.
It did, however, seem to fix the notice I was getting at http://kaspall.xepher.net/ saying to install (or update?) Shockwave Flash.

I've been trying the last couple days to update Flash player again but this time when I put the downloaed file path/name in the installer, it just does nothing once the window closes. Is there a problem with the latest Flash install files (.tar.gz) or what?

Got it, but I had do drop down one version of flash player, the latest didn't want to finish downloading (tried several times). At least now Youtube and Facebook videos are working.

Now, how do I get rid of the Install Flash Player in my Start menu?

Flash Player is a constant problem and seems to always have problems.
Could be as simple as the download site had problems at that specific time.
how do I get rid of the Install Flash Player in my Start menu?
If you got program by installing the flash_install-0.1.pet.
in Puppy Package Manager(PPM) It should be listed in installed packages.
Left mouse click on it in that list and it will uninstall and should remove from menu.
