Not sure what changes were made with the newer versions of puppy in 4.2.1 and 4.3, but where as I can get on line with comcast in California with no problems on the older versions, the newer ones just are not connecting. They do not pass test and it does not matter if you go through set up... nothing works.
What changed and what do I need to do to get my internet, one of main reasons for using puppy to work?
I'm using comcast cable internet in Washington state with Puppy 4.2.1 and Puppy 4.1.2 and it works just fine for me. I have it hooked up through a linksys wireless router. I haven't tried 4.3 yet though. What method are you using to connect? Are you able to connect with windows, or another computer?
I am kind of surprised I am one of the few who seems to be having this problem.. with 4.3... no internet.. nada.. with 4.2 on same pc... internet works... both configured same way under setup..
testing shows older works, yet no connection for newer.
so.. comcast interent works for other pcs and for windows xp and other versions of puppy on the same pc, but does not work for 4.3 on any pc.
you need to tell the community more about your setup otherwise it will be very difficult for those who can help to do so.
while you have told us the puppy version you are using, you also need at the very least to tell us what your hardware is, and how you are connecting to the internet -- by modem, dialup or router? is this wired or wireless? ethernet? cable modem?
how do you have puppy installed? full ? frugal? usb? something more exotic?
there are 4 options in the network wizard -- which are you selecting?
is there something that you know to be special or different about comcast in california (remember many members of the community including the author of puppy are no from america and "comcast" may mean nothing to them)
if you can supply lots of information upfront, it saves the tedious "have you got this?" - "No" -- "have you got that" -- "no" exchanges that make it hard to offer a timely and useful response
Comcast supplies broadband internet. Comcast is a cable company.
My two computers work with all other version of puppy and with Comcast, but not with puppy 4.3 and not with a few of the modded versions of 4.2.1.
Intel setup is:
Zotac 9300 mini itx
E7500 dual core processor
connected through wired Realtek RTL8211CL Gigabit Ethernet lan connection to motorola surfboard modem.
AMD set up
Asus A8R32-MVP (3 year old motherboard)
Opteron 185 dual core processor
connected through wired marvel 88E8001 or E8053 gigabit lan to motorola surfboard modem
My CD of 2.16 will connect (dialup, GKdial). My CD's of 4.1 retro and regular and 4.2, which use WVDial, always fail, at different points in the connection to the ISP.
It seems WVDial is not waiting long enough for responses. What can I do?
Even XP is having a harder time trying to get a connection, but will after a few tries. I haven't been able to connect with 4.1 or 4.2 for weeks now. 2.16 will connect, sometimes takes a couple tries as XP does. WVDial is never connecting.
I may try ttuxx's 2.14x, but wish to stay with 4.2 if possible. Maybe get GKDial for 4.2? Maybe get a tutorial from one of you to connect manually and learn something about this issue I'm having?
I suppose we're going to have to go the high speed route soon, but this is something I'd like to solve.
