Bionicpup32 and WINE

#1 Post by nic007 »

I have a very old version of WINE which works from Puppy412 all the way through to Xenial 7.5 but not with Bionic32. Is this a known issue? BTW - I'm not interested in a newer version of WINE as this old version runs all the programs I want it to and is still very small (before WINE boomed to the size of a new operating system).

Hi nick,

"I have a very old version of WINE which works from Puppy412 all the way through to Xenial 7.5 but not with Bionic32. Is this a known issue?" Yes. See, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 245#989245

FWIW: The general impression I have is that, for some reason not known to me, after series 3, although wine's compatibility with windows increased, its size decreased. However, version2013 has had increasing difficulty compiling wine series 4 or above under Puppies older than tahrpup.

That difficulty may carry forward as to which version can be used with older Puppies: they may lack required libraries. If you do decide to upgrade wine for older Puppies, look for a version version2013 complied under Puppy 432, for example, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 85#1029885. Under Bionicpup32 which you use shouldn't make a difference.

Bionicpup32 is the only Puppy that does not work with this old Wine 1.14(17MB in size). Not really an issue as I don't really use Bionic. Just strange that it does not work.
