Puppy still struggling to recognise SD cards

#1 Post by paulh177 »

This is a problem I've had for years on all sorts of Pups, 32 & 64, on different machines, but I'm using Bionic 64 rn so I'll raise it here:

If I plug in a SD card to the builtin reader, Puppy simply doesn't see it. I can't mount it, even parted doesn't see it.

If however I boot the pup with the card inserted, it *can* see it, mount it, use it.

When I plug it in, nothing appears in /var/log/messages or if i run dmesg.

This is an old Dell 1545 laptop, but I have the same problem on an Acer AOAOne

Is this known? Can it be fixed?

In the off-shot it's not a BIOS setting, and unless you've disabled hot plug support in Event Manager, it sounds as though you need to auto-load on boot the modules that are present when it's plugged. This is something I had to do in the past for my phone.
