Biomonkey32 A remaster of upupbb19.03 with Seamonkey 2.49.5

#1 Post by perdido »

All thanks to original programmers, this is just my cobbled together puppy of other people's work
that is based on peebee's excellent upupbb19.03 (bionicpup32) that I modified for my own use,
***************************************
If you want to look at it its here - cut and paste link.

282MB md5= b738e81d903954b8d935361b30fe22b9
*****************************************
This started out as a personal customization that is now my main operating system.
My whole objective was to make upupbb32 feel similar to precise 5.71, thats the reason
for using seamonkey 2.49.5 & changing the JWMDesk to the version in bionicpup64.

The JWMDesk from bionicpup64 was chosen as that is mostly the same set of programs you
find in Precise5.71, they are just supported with the new GUI. That is also the reason the old themes
from earlier puppy versions are used (like precise 5.71)

Seamonkey 2.49.5 was chosen as it is the last official version with ALSA support (sound) that works in upupbb32.

The meat and potatoes
32-bit bionic remaster from peebee's upupbb19.03-14
Same kernel 4.9.163
Replaced the jwm desk with the version in bionicpup64 & added some more themes (uses old style themes like puppy 4 & 5 & 6)
Seamonkey 2.49.5 (mail, chatzilla, composer.address book)
(This is the latest Seamonkey that uses
Replaced abiword with rtfed
Replaced hexchat with Chatzilla
Replaced sylpheed with Seamonkey mail & news
Added the LotsaLuks GUI (from jafadmin) to make using Luks simple
Added GTKChecksum from ubuntu
Updated Uextract (from SFR) to 4.0
Updated Packit (from SFR) to 1.21
Default text viewer is now Leafpad
Default html editor is Composer
Increased the XLoad refresh to faster (little window on taskbar)
Changed speaker color in tray
Changed network icons to precise 5.xx style
Minix calender pops up when you click date/time like old puppy versions
Increased taskbar program bar to use all available taskbar space - easier for me (like precise was)
Changed background color of PUDD window to black to ease viewing (was white txt on yellow yuck!)
Added leafpad to ROX right click menu
Seamonkey as browser as adrv sfs
Other stuff that I am sure I forgot to mention

If you don't like seamonkey & its programs just remove the adrv_upupbb_19.03.sfs and replace the browser with whatever you like.
If you do that the IRC client (chatzilla), email( mail and news), and html editor( composer) will also be uninstalled, Replace those with your favorites.
The original installed email program was sylpheed.
The original installed IRC client was hexchat.
If you like abiword look here, most of the original installed packages are in this directory..

No warranty of any kind. This is just a share and I will not be making changes but you are free to modify and remaster to your desired prettiness :)

This was tested and used on a dell & compaq laptop, seems solid.
The main thing is have fun with it. If I forgot to mention something or forgot to thank someone I apologise.

It looks like a monkey and smells like one too :)
I suppose I could have had a desktop background with a monkey, go at it if you wish, I prefer a simple dark background

Very enjoyable and well-stocked, thank you.
Changed background color of PUDD window to black to ease viewing (was white txt on yellow yuck!)
If you start the PPM, open configuration and click to update sources, the resulting terminal window is also white on yellow. Double yuck!

Thanks for the feedback & mentioning those PPM colors, I would have changed that if I knew  :D

Here is a quick fix for that, if you use the PPM configure program you probably want this. What it does is change the default color from white on yellow to white on black. 8)
It modifies the /usr/local/petget/configure.sh so that rxvt terminal will have a black background with white text. This will also work in the original upupbb_19.03 that also has the yucky color combo.

This an optional fix for the configure screen background color in PPM, it makes it much easier on the eyes :)

Thank you. Just some context: the reason I had to enter the PPM configuration window was the PPM suggested I should do so to update sources to solve some broken package - unfortunately I don't remember what was.
