32-bit programs

#222 Post by sszindian »

Phil

''Bingo''

That did the trick!!!

Google Earth running like a charm...

FYI That version of Google Earth is the best version I have found over the years... I believe it's from Saluki (way back when) and is still available from 'Smokey01' website. The only bad-feature is the small dialog-box that appears and says you are not connected to the server(or something like that) just click it OFF... the program runs just fine!

'Thanks for the help phil' Xenial64 is looking better and better every day!!!

I originally found this on the LXDE version made from Xenialpup 7.01.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 347#916347

I confirmed the same thing happen in this version.

From my other post:

I just attempted to use the Universal Installer to put lxxenial puppy on a USB drive. I formatted the drive to Ext4 using gparted when prompted to do so in the installer. Then I chose it to do the install and got the following error.

Code: Select all

You need 'Extlinux version 4.x for frugal install on 'ext4' partitions.
In the LXDE version, I confirmed that it worked correctly with an ext3 partition. I didn't test that in this version, but assume it is the same.

Let USB drive FAT32 !

Let USB drive FAT32 !
ext4 will cause useless troubles, Fat32 is perfect.

Using Ext4 on a USB drive is a function that is supposed to work. It doesn't work, so it is a bug that should be reported and fixed. If it can't be fixed, then you shouldn't be able to choose it in the Universal Installer.

FAT32 doesn't let you use a save folder.

Ext3 works though (and I assume Ext2 does, but I didn't test it).

I think the next will be 7.0.3. The devx was uploaded today (or maybe that is just a tease  )
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/test/xenialpup/

You can apparently build a 7.0.2 right now (since July 4th) with Woof-CE though:

Hi,

I must say puppy projects is difficult to grasp, there is so many builds out there. I am somewhat a medioker/standard user off linux, so that might count in. And i still think puppy is great :)

I have used tahr puppy, but when i bought i new laptop this was not suitable out of box. I actually have been using puppy for about 2 years, but is just theese latest days i understood that tahr corresponded to the Ubuntu version.. lol

I added a quest in the hardware forum and i got a suggestion to move to the derivate project place. The thing i am not shure where this is, here?
They suggested Xenial, so i ended up with xenialPup64 7.07. I also saw that there was a Dog version, not shure what is the best suitable for me..

I have some issues with the xenialpup:

What is not optimal, and i need help with:

- Get-flash: The utility says it can not contact the server/derivate. Cant remember excactly, but probably the server it is set up to download from is not reachable.
- Encryption: When i activate encryption, my password does not work. Error message, something like not able to acsess... press enter to reenter password.
- Soundcard: Working, but problematic to change levels: Fiddling. Had to change to analog from HDMI. Speaker seems
to be ok. But with headphones i needed to go back and forward in alsa and activate and deactivate. If i move the slider in main volume in the
"startbar" The sound goes on/off. Can adjust the level in programs/browser
though. The problem might be a combined Mic/headphones jack?

What works now:

- Graphics :works out of the box.
- Wireless: The problem was that i can not use special characters as - in the
Passfrase. I used WPA2 Preshared key.
- Touchpad :very sensetive: Configured graphical interface, ok.

Sitdown,

Sorry about the learning curve with pups and/or pup-inspired OSes. On the plus side, if you can stick with it, just for a bit longer, you will start to learn new things and it will be a joy, as you begin to get a basic understanding of how things work together, and what you can and cannot do.

Listen, if you need help with your wireless (I responded in your other thread), and also questions about things like "get flash", a situation where Adobe just recently completely restructured their web site (and thus downloads) which caused the script which automatically retrieved the latest "flash" to not work, throwing up the exact error you are seeing, there are easy work arounds.

There's two ways to attack the "Flash" problem. Arguably, the easiest way is to go straight to the Adobe Web site, download the Linux tar.gz of the bit version you are using. Close your browser. Then, unarchive that tar.gz you just downloaded by just clicking on it and choosing "unarchive" or whatever your pup uses for un-tarring tar.gz files, accept the defaults as it will usually open the un-tarred folder & place it right beside the actual tar.gz file. You will see in this un-tarred folder the actual libflashplayer.so file in it. Open up another "File" window, go straight to /usr/lib64, you should see a shortcut folder of "adobe-flashplugin". Click on it, when it opens you will see the exact same #####.so file, delete the existing one, copy in the new one that you just unarchived, and then restart the browser. Voila, you've the latest flashplayer version for all browsers you are using in that pup.

Doing this works for many things in puppies, like updating browsers overall, updating flashplayer, and quite a few other things. The beauty of pups is their incredible flexibility and adaptability. that, and, as you've discovered, they will make you learn a few things which will make you want to learn even more.

Good luck!! Respond if you have any questions.

(but now i have problem when edit menu. Usually i press e and i can edit, ex: add pfix=ram. But when i use gfxfile i can not edit that. Anyone know the solution?

Another problem is, i can not make bootable flashdisk with yumi from this .iso :(, my solution is, i just copy *.sfs, vmlinuz, initrd.gz, then do grub4dos, commented line color ... And add gfxmenu /gfxfile )
