Beg to disagree. My sources say differently.

Yes, President Lincoln and its Congress fought for and won US Civil War. But, the Repubs lost ground until after 1954 Supreme Court decision. Separate but Equal was whose decision? Would you care to contribution responsibility on that. We must remember, the roots and the background which even today, the country wrestle with.

If you find exception, check the party numbers and changes over the past 100 years. See for yourself.

One might want to assert a different path, but, even if one talks economic wealth as the reason for the rise, who has benefited from that. NOT your Black population. In a percentage comparison, you see another difference which you may want to argue as well.

But, this argument is the root of the problem where many want to assert that their is no such thing in America. A reluctance to admission, or a desire to not look might be an issue.

Again, I assert and I question
I can only hope many/most of us see a path to a brighter future and are willing to retrain ourselves away from that kind of upbringing.

But, as was indicated earlier about my views, this kind of optimism means we should NOT DO ANYTHING???
We may be saying the same thing...maybe.

The slavery issue was brought into the Civil War to cripple the South economically. Neither side represented the best interests of Blacks. The South wanted states rights. Lincoln and the North wanted a strong, centralized federal government. Lincoln was a Republican. Ironically, the Republicans now want states rights and a crippled up federal government. @GCM's contention that current events are a matter of planned bad intention. Well, there's plenty of bad intentions; that's true. There may even be planned attempts to exercise bad intentions. However, these folks just aren't all that bright and capable. Trump is a good example. A multi-generation conspiracy is just too difficult to credit them with. It's more like the effect of an unrelenting force, like gravity making water run downhill. It all gets to the ocean somehow without any plan at all. I believe that force is economic. I don't think politics, social engineering, foreign policy, etc. does anywhere near as much as economic pressure. If we can control the flow of money, then money will cease to control us. We really can do something.

Bark bark bark they did not flip flop, equally and pandering are not the same. Democrats made a plan to pander to gain votes. Separate but equal court case had not been a party platform for either side, and so not a Republican or Democratic Party lost. If you see the government held by the Democrats most of those years and it was NOT addressed by them, most resistant where DEMOCRATIC state governors in the south and Bird (D) of West Virginia. Again stop inventing history.
With a breif exception Democrats party ruled from before WW2 and til mid 70s.
Do not know how this moved from a funny app to serious political discussion, but the topic is over 50 years old and part of the fabric of society. Nobody wants to return to Jim Crow laws. Separate but Equal was never Equal.

Lastly I can see so little difference in the political speakers from either side, its like choosing your favorite color to rule the USA. To that point I did not even know some of the Republicans in the Early debates where Republicans. When I heard them speak before two I expected to be Democrats.
They only two I can tell are different are Trump and Sanders.

Wish we had more colors to choose from :P

In my world of teachings as I grew to understanding, it was to evaluate the runners and vote for the one who brings the best value to community inclusion and humanity's direction. This inevitably means fair and equitable behavior, jobs, and security. The idea of economics is a term for THEM as they calculate their worth based upon what you generate for THEM.

Once an elected official is there, he must look for those things that his community can provide such that they are able to acquire enough wealth to sustain. This is industry(s) of some sort that can help provide the necessities for educating the community's base.

I have often wondered how in the latter part of the 19th century scholars were able to define society structure as was done to layout our understanding of Communism to its people, Fascism to its people, Socialism to its people, and what the US Supreme Court did for Corporations in Capitalism. England chose to prop up the King-Queen Feudalism with a Democratic underpinning while other Euro Continent countrys diversed into the various kinds of societies mentioned.

Yes we are a quite a mixture at the top, yet, at our basic levels we ALL start out a blank slate, learning all we come to know as we mature. But, thanks to scientific documentation which continues to fill in the blanks, we have everything mankind needs to know to evolve to our next level. And maybe this is what our historical record is suppose to show the different societies so that somewhere on the planet we can demonstrate a harmony unlike seen before us.

I had often Canada or France was that country. But, as mentioned, it does have problems which differ from what we see in many other countries as it has attempted to demonstrate a homogenized type of existence based upon participation in the society at large.

We can only hope that such attempts grows such that we are able to coexist providing every person an opportunity to achieve and contribute to our well being as mankind moves forward.

NO, they are NOT the same of both sides of the isle as is noted. To stand an tell me that someone who preaches hate and bullying is the same as someone who preaches and demonstrates collectiveness and working together for achievement, I raise an eyelid.

The messages from each is quite a bit different. That "same-as/no-different" rethoric was used to elect a 93IQ to lead the most powerful nation in the world. At the end of that reign we see that the message IS NOT THE SAME among candidates.

This is about as far as I want to engage this. Sorry if anyone feels I have stepped on any toes. I am trying to open our eyes. My view is that NO person should be so weak as he/her needs a party to define them. If so, well you have defined an agenda that you are hell-bent to follow. But, as we get old, we fall into a rut and it becomes easy to follow along without question with a feeling of helplessness to effect change.

I am old, too! But, I refuse to take on any message which I feel is not moving mankind forward in how we deal with each other. Fairness is apparent by merely looking at what our data (science) tells us. That is the message if anyone wants to strive for it. Thus one can be strong and one can be fair at the same time.

Any outcome of events results from things not done and things that didn't happen as well as things done and things that did happen. It is fairly easy to identify things that did happen and the things that were done that contributed to a given outcome. It is very hard to analyze what might have happened but didn't and what could have been done but wasn't. Because we are prone to minimize effort, we tend to focus on the former and disregard the latter. Intent is a driving force; circumstantial necessity and inevitable consequence are stronger forces. This combination minus restraint and dumb luck yields the result. To properly address our situation, we need to recognize what has to happen and what needs to happen and control our intentions through appropriate restraint. This course of action usually overcomes the influence of dumb luck. Unfortunately, we usually respond emotionally and react unnecessarily, which can compound the influence of chance occurrence. Managing collective responsibility, whatever the mechanisms involved, is very difficult and often unsuccessful. Thus the history of humanity has been a continuing contest of intentions, an improving assessment of circumstances, a cycle of waxing and waning of emotional involvement, and a diminishing reliance on dumb luck. We are getting better at the science of management, but need to turn our attention to the psychology of self-improvement and self-control.

Well, we made it back to filter extensions. Thanks, Rok. Loved the meat story since Omni. I have no love for Trump. Guy has bad hair with bad ideas under that and a bad mouth under it all. But considering the following he's gathered, I do want to know what he says. He is phenomenal. I'm gonna make a wild guess that this sort of code is just a find/replace routine lifted from a freeware word processor. I guess it's a form of free unspeech ... or something. I'd like to take the opportunity to remind my fellow Dems out there that trying to run a country without Repubs is like trying to drive a car without brakes. Brakes can make some bad noises, but they can stop you from running off a cliff.

Lol say it like it is.... dumbass.... saying is fact. Just because some dumpass said so does not make it so. In terms of enlightenment people as a group rarely go backward. IE if you believe and support people being equal and treat them as such, then with the exception of extreme stress and brain injury would only effect individuals go backward.
So you are casing a wide brush against about half the US population, that is simply untrue. I know living in a mostly Democratic Northern State a lot of simply wrong characterizations exists about the South and Texas.
They are self serving fears about the people and self reinforcing. I haven't lived up North since the mid 80s and was horrified in the little town up north I had to finish middle school and saw true active racism against Hispanics, Blacks and Indians which does not happen before then or now in Central Texas.
Could have been the strange little town, I got jumped and pinned to the ground a few minutes after arriving, their way of saying hello to strangers.

Sorry about that welcome, Ted. I'm from the North and spent some time in the South. Southerners exhibit some unease, but Northerners express active distrust and veiled hostility. What I understand least is why whites trust whites. I can't see any reason for it. I guess, being white, I have a problem with preference. Now Texas is completely different in my limited experience. The state has a culture based on respect. I wonder if it's because everyone's got a gun? Very few guns up here and a whole lot of disrespect that would be downright dangerous in most other places. BTW, I'm no NRA fan, and I think arming the North would be a bad idea. Back to Trump - where's this guy from?

Many of us, when young, have had some bad experience we can point to. Some of those are direct and personal, while others are indirect as we've witness injustices against those around us.

Yeah, the world is not perfect and because of all the differing outlooks and teaching experiences, we will not become so, individually. BUT, collectively, we are perfectly whole. This, I know is a stretch in perspective, but, any idea that a fight among 2 sides means a better world, I totally disagree.

What I find useful is that correlating approaches to a problem when done collectively, does yield a safely better thought-thru solution. Thus, because one has a view that is different, when taken for its substance, a better product can be presented. This is what Lawmaking is suppose to be. Collective approaches is good and IS NOT one-world order.

But, in the past 8 years, America has shown a total unwillingness to do so. And were successful in starting a virus in it Political Party system (Yes the Tea-Party) who initially was started with a campaign to "Arm yourselves" and "Kill the President on sight" because of his race. Yes, this group was aligned and absorbed into the US's Republican Party. And the negative influence that this group of lawmakers has exerted upon its population has demonstrated that they believe this is the way society is to be. In the last 7 years, it has done nothing that has benefited the people in a good faith. They even watered down and created exclusivity in the ONLY Public law passed during the last 2 president's term; namely a watered down Health Care Act for US citizenry. EVERYTHING else has benefited those of means.

To suggest that a party which is designed to benefit it corporations and the wealthy while preaching that the poor is a drag on US existence, is to begin a new dark age of mankind's existence where the intent is to begin a new kind of killing spree while stepping back and saying that they had no fault in what occurred. Even their message on Guns is designed to be used on US people, while they incarcerate or arrest every minority they can get their hands on to insure that they have no right or opportunity to have a gun. They know what they are doing, while the people never get any picture which shows how US society is designed much less the operational reasons that they pass on to the public.

No media to bring the truth to its people means the picture of actuality is never heard. For the media is now controlled by THEM for both themselves and Government.

I am still miffed at what happened to a prominent US News Anchor and, separately, a bigot who remains on broadcast TV. Separately, Both, in delivering each's personal presence in war-torn middle east was a lie. The Anchor was forced to leave his job and disgraced publicly. The bigot was patted on the back and remains on broadcast TV even though it was proven that he lied about his presence by many others. So, you do NOT have to step back too far to see what is occurring.

This is why there is a constant push to force-feed the message that party is echoing while not saying they echo this.

I contend that there is a group high above us that sees value in keeping us, lambs, focused on this and feeding the hate perspective. The lines are intentionally drawn and since the people see it in leadership, lambs reinforce it in populace view and behavior.

THEY know that "ALL humans learn from the information that is prevalent and at hand." Only a few step outside of that prevalence: Christ, Buddha, Gandi, King, Socrates, Einstein, Newton, Galileo, and many, many, many others who have contributed to attempts to move beyond the classical.

Whew!

I think it has more to do with the dangers in the wild untamed outdoors and the lack of any hope that law enforcement can make it to make it any time to STOP problems from happening is why guns abound.
Case in point my riding mower was removed from my property, called the law enforcement to report a theft. It takes on a good day 40 mins, on average never show up! This time a good day within 50 minutes they made it. HAD ALREADY FOUND AND HOGTIED PERSON RESPONSIBLE!

OK not hogtied not sure how that is done anyway, no Pork people. But you count on your neighbors to look after / help. Currently have a wild pig problem so guns are being used a bunch.
Called Neighborhood and got the information needed to solved the accidental removal and repair of the equipment was free

GcM no Tea Party did not start like you discribed. I witnessed a gathering overheard speech and spoke to two middle aged ladys afterwords. Its a response to loss of freedoms and government overreach ( again not a racists area ) I can understand some confusion since there has been an effort to paint tea party as such, but outside of personal opinions and desire to see racist acfions where none is available, no activities have been demonstrated.
Takes more than a single nutjob here and there to claim a group as large as the Tea Party to describe such vitriol. I am surprised that plants and hatchet workers have not been more successful within the Tea party. They must have some internal method of dealing with people wishing to destroy them from within.
Guess its good that everybody has cell phone cameras and can search online for peoples facebook.

I am so glad to live in a part of the country with no dominant political party. At least I can met and know people from all sides. One of my past students left Texas to finish his IT degree up near BarkBarkBark and come back spouting the same type of talk.
Do not know who or what can make a kid that was born and raised here comeback with such a negative view about types of people, I ask him to comeup with anyone he knows that fits the hateful Christian southern racist bigot type that he is accusing of being so common now. I even said it was ok to name other teachers names since I know a few that did not care for his behavior and about 1/3 of the town we both know. He could not bring up a name.

I beg to differ, and there is ample evidence to support my assertion. You can start your own investigation if you choose. Start with when it was formed and what its original platform was. If you find anything that suggest it was NOT formed because a Black Senator was President I am ALL EARS! The evidence, documented evidence, says that is the reason. My older friends in US tell me that is the reason too. So combined White views and written evidence, that Party was started to begin the disgraceful non-cooperative approaches that elevated to what it is today. Yesterday, I was asked to view the statements and the applauses on the Congress to the Presidents "State of the Union Message". When someone suggest a need to improving things that has public benefit and you refuse to stand because you are in a Party and the appointed person in the audience does not give the sign, then you and your party does NOT applause/stand. If you can review segments, you will see (for yourself) who and where in Chamber that person sat. That is just one example of many that has been reflective to the Republican controlled Congress over the past 8 years. And there are still those shouting racist remarks whenever the President shows up anywhere in the US. Yes, whether it is faced or not, this represents a problem in its Congressional leadership endorsing a public that this is acceptable and by any account, endorsed.

I only reference Guns, previous to this post, as to show the pattern of a structure as it relates to how THEY have built and control our insights-behavior in US society. If we were able to expose THEIR behavior beyond the simple ones from 60-Minutes, we might actually get a population that will bring about change.

There are too few Michael Moores who are demonized to steer away the US public from seeing things with additional information.

I have been hopeful that the disgraced News reporters would go to work for any organization where their skills (not the disgraced reasons) could be drawn upon to give the Public a greater picture beyond current rhetoric that could be helpful in pulling the public from the quagmire.

Over the years, my personal views has been shared outside of this forum on the web as well. Hopefully that message of those persons will allow them to assist in bringing a message useful to public so that a movement to strongly denounce the bad behavior can become so strong that it actually frees mankind to be brazen enough to assist intellectual expansion across the board.

Again, knowing what I now know, NO American should belong to ANY political party. It is not necessary to belong if we have been built with a prism to vote for the BEST. ... Not for a Party. And when asked, all should respond "That I will vote for who I feel is best to lead the most powerful country on the planet, with intelligence." World does NOT need another 93IQ nor does it need another Hitler approach to motivate a country. We know what those 2 have done.

We need a world of everyone to move mankind forward.

BTW, how many in US know what party the group ALEC represents. This group has a mission is to take over the government into their own hand picked local states and to position themselves as the controller of all public laws of the future.

They now control the US's "SWING" state governments, thus the Electoral College in now in their hands and since it is secret you have no way of knowing the voting truth. I did not know his until it was just pointed out to me. Now you know which way the next election is going to go.

USA has now become the "United States of ALEC"! Your local and central voices are now lost. (A documentary available on Youtube) Couple recent documentaries has come by way of the Canadians.

Sorry. (Or maybe you can find a way to get control back to the people.)

@tedDog, What I said earlier is fact. you can look it up for yourself and see what I'm saying is true, those parties have flipped flopped. The whole time when the flipped flopped may have taken a few decades, but it DID IN FACT happen. The nazis that run the Republican party now are NOTHING like the good guys of the old Republican Party that freed the slaves. The old Democrats were assholes, but FDR is part of what made the Democratic party what is is now, a party for those down to earth who are there to help the little guy make it.
