Don't know about others, but I'm very comfortable using this cli version and am going to stick with it. Don't like the new work-dir location, though ...
The original remasterdog-cli had work-dir in /tmp, why did you change it?

Code: Select all

DEST="/live/image"

mkdir $DEST/work-dir
However, line 76 is still unchanged.

Code: Select all

echo "Now you can clean manually /tmp/work-dir if you like."

CLI script is not documented for general use and does not have menu entry to be executed in terminal. It was simple instruction for you how to mod it for your needs and /live/image is the destination I use always for working folder. I don't have enough RAM to use /tmp.

I'm not sure I understand what is the problem you have.
.exe is windows executable and some kind of zip archive if I do not mistake. Renaming .exe to .zip will extract the content in ArcDrop.
If you mean executable file ArcDrop can not be opened it is actually a script you can open with text editor set to work with drag and drop actions using bash.
If it doesn't work in Carolina, LxPup and Ubuntu it is different kind of missing dependencies problem and has nothing to do with DD thread.

download location of latest wheezy 3.16 pae or above kernel?

#1127 Post by mcewanw »

Hi Toni,

I'm continuing to mainly run DD wheezy on my old machine. Yesterday, I was looking for the iso again, but the 3.16 pae kernel one, but it doesn't seem to mentioned under downloads. Buried much further down in the thread (I can't remember where again...) I later found, what I think is the correct one, at kazza download site. I think it would be good if its location was pointed to in first post of thread, especially since I think that is the iso many people would prefer since has SMP too as far as I believe. Or maybe I just missed the link to it?

EDIT: Link here and note about forcepae if applicable: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 588#841588

EDIT2: A couple of year ago I've tried a special lubuntu build that supposedly forces many non-pae machines to boot with pae kernel, but it didn't work on my old Fujitsu Amilo Pentium M single-core 1.6GHz machine. However... to my surprise, the openbox pae 3.16 kernel DebianDog booted fine on my old Fujitsu Amilo! Wow... that saved me a power of installation work, since I just cloned the installation using DD-installer, onto usb stick, cloning from existing DD openbox 3.16 pae installed machine. I am happy man!

Cheers, William

Hi, bmark109.

We have DebianDog-frugal-install GUI with option to install only grub4dos in mbr.
Marking the drive and click on "Install MBR" button does that. See the attached screenshot.
Or click on "Install" button gives choice to install DebianDog from iso or directory using grub4dos or syslinux.

It is easy to convert grub4dos-0.4.4.v1.9.2.pet to sfs file and load it. We have right click option pet2sfs-convert.
But unfortunately grub4dodconfig script depends on probepart2 script which in turn depends on /etc/rc.d/PUPSTATE file (generated on boot from Puppy) to show the correct drive information. The GUI starts but the drive list is empty since no other linux has /etc/rc.d/PUPSTATE file. It can't be used in any other linux without editing the way the drive information is collected and I'm not sure if all options available as check boxes will work without changes. I will try to mod it if I get time in the next days but can't promise I will be able to make it work well in DebianDog.

Thanks for the good news hope it works out.
Being able to install grub4dos bootloader without reinstalling puppy is ideal.

Hi Toni, I may be wrong, but I believe that DebianDog-Installer function only installs to the MBR but doesn't put a copy of grldr or menu.lst in the partition, so that has to be done manually as things stand.

Fred,

I set up a copy of your DebianDog-openbox wheezy for a friend but noticed that gmail was complaining that the Firefox provided was too old. So on FIrefox Help-About notice I pressed the Update button and that seemed to work since then had Firefox 38.0.5, which seemed fine. However, I later discovered that Firefox 38.0.5 crashed everytime I visited Youtube page... There seems to be similar reports on the Internet though no fix that I've noticed. I consequently used apt-get to install iceweasel instead, since that works fine on Youtube. Is there some particular reason why you prefer FIrefox to using Debian provided iceweazel Fred?

By the way, I don't know if that Firefox crash issue is a general problem since as yet I've only tested it on one computer (where the crash always occurs as soon as Youtube page visited). Googling brought up a couple of posts which suggested the crash only occurred on Intel graphics based systems - but I haven't tested further as yet.

Hi, William.
Yes, you are right. I could make some simple script to do the job from debdog-installer but I think I have grub4dosconfig working well in DD.

Can you, please, test this properly when you have time? I think it works well but I don't have much experience with grub4dos. If it works well I will make separate deb packages for DebianDog from the included scripts and needed dependencies and upload them in dd-repository.

This is only testing sfs module (download with right click -> Save link as):
Module removed. Use apt-get or synaptic to install grub4dosconfig.

Edit: testing deb package uploaded:
The script searches only Puppy linux files. It is not changed to search for DebianDog files. We have DebianDog-frugal and full installers instead. You will have to edit the menu.list for DebianDog after installing grub4dos with grub4dosconfig.

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install grub4dosconfig
Edit2: Reminder to myself mostly - the deb packge has official dc as dependency instead dc link to /bin/busybox, but grub4dosconfig script doesn't work well with official dc from Debian. I will have to restore dc link to busybox (as in the squashfs module) or change the dc lines in the script to give correct partition size information using official dc package.

Edit3: OK, the dc version problem solved by using /opt/bin/special/dc link to /bin/busybox inside the script. Added gsu lines. I forgot to change defaulthtmlviewer to default_web-browser. I will do it later updating the repository for Wheezy and Jessie. guess_fstype script is uploaded as separate deb package. It is better to keep it separated in case other scripts from Puppy need guess_fstype as dependency (as we did with probepart deb). Seems the script works well in DebianDog now.

Edit4: All done now. I will not update the deb package anymore (unless someone finds something for fixing later). The testing module is removed. Anyone interested, please, use apt-get or synaptic to install and test grub4dosconfig.

Problem solved with this code:
You are mixing the threads. This one is for DebianDog-Wheezy (old stable Debian) and it doesn't have http://kazzascorner.com.au but smokey01.com/ repository in sources.list
Most probably you got the error with Jessie apt-get update because I was uploading new packages at the same time today.
Please, make sure what Debiandog version you have (Jessie or Wheezy) and post the problems in Jessie thread for problems with DebianDog-Jessie:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=99460
Otherwise DebianDog-Wheezy users could get troubles using the sources.list posted from you here. It is not for Wheezy and should not be used with Wheezy. Some packages from Jessie Kazzas repo do not work in Wheezy.
