Bluetooth is a sore point, very limited, as Vanguard/Carolina was based on Saluki there hasn't been any updates with bluetooth, the only thing is here > http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 728#616728

brightness keys

#444 Post by johnywhy »

anyone know how to make the brightness keys work on vlina?

i am able to adjust brightness on CLI with:

Code: Select all

echo 1000 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
but, this does not make brightness keys work on my asus:
gampr01 wrote:this made the default screen brightness adjustment keys work on my acer 4830TG. just add "acpi_osi=Linux" (without "") to the menu.lst of grub/grub4dos, line kernel. Such, my menu.lst now looks like this:

title Puppy Linux 5.6.0 Slacko
find --set-root --ignore-floppies /Puppy/initrd.gz
kernel /Puppy/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=Puppy pcie_aspm=force acpi_osi=Linux
initrd /Puppy/initrd.gz

Ok Geoffrey :(
great! can you post your recipe?

thx!
Sure!, this is what i done, with some help of the Ubuntu`s forum:

Im gonna leave out the POL thing, i think it doesnt help me on the installation.

1) Instal Wine 1.7.22 from here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=88711 . anyway, i think the last stable Wine will work fine.

2) We need the Winbind for Office, it`s inside the SAMBA package, so download it from the Carolina repo. (Samba 3.6.3 i486). Also instal the clarf_pnethood-0.681 Carolina. Dont know if it really works for the installation, but i did it anyway, just in case

3) Open Wine Config, run the compatibilities to Windows XP (7 doesnt work for me)

4) Later, simply double click on the setup.exe file from your copy of Office. Takes some times, but it should work.

5) Setup is done. Later, for a working PowerPoint (at this point only Word and Excel will work), you have to open Wine config, enter new app, search the POWERPNT.EXE application and load at the libraries tab the "riched20" lib.

That`s all!, run Wine Progman, execute, ready.

How to upgrade xfce Mouse and Touchpad panel?

#446 Post by johnywhy »

Hi

xSlacko has a superior Touchpad panel, because you can specify the duration on "disable while typing". This is essential for me, since the default duration is too long and i spend too much time swiping while waiting for the mouse to unfreeze.

Disable while typing is essential for me pc, since i'm always accidentally touching the pad while typing.

How can i get the duration slider on vLina?

See pics.

thx!

Works for me, do you have xfce 4.12 installed, though looking at the image you posted the "Disable touchpad while typing" checkbox isn't checked.

Network Card Issue

#449 Post by Deacon »

Hello, was a big fan of the original Carolina and Vanguard is stunning! Almost everything works out of the box... except my Wireless.

Code: Select all

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

09:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)
Got the data above from my connected OS

Strangely, a reboot of the system will sometimes show a wireless icon, sometimes a no network icon. Should I be using a different set of drivers?

Broadcom is always a real pain in the you-know-where with Puppy. IIRC they do it on purpose.

You probably need to blacklist something, but I'm not sure offhand what.

" Strangely, a reboot of the system will sometimes show a wireless icon "

""""""""""""

Change your wireless channel.

Wireless often won't connect in Windows 7...on some channels..

but I have had it happen once in Puppy.

Working: Now onto Frugal Install, except

#452 Post by Deacon »

Thanks to cthsbear and starhawk for their responses. It spurred me to recheck and click around the networking stuff and behold, networking is working. So I now have fully functional Carolina on my flash drive.

However, the usual Puppy installer isn't there, and so I'm curious as to how to do a nice frugal on my drive and give Carolina room to roam. Any ideas where that installer is? Someplace obvious I missed?

Yeah... I should have guessed that.

Got it on Frugal, moved the Save file, fought with Grub2 and I am now back to Carolina goodness!

Chrome/Chromium

#456 Post by Deacon »

Ok, so now I'm trying to figure out.... which Chromium to use with Vanguard? I see 37 works, but when I click the link it goes to 42, which-- when I tried it-- doesn't. Anyone got a link to 37 (or whichever latest version works)?

I'm working on repackaging a few different versions to see if they run, I have chromium-40.0.2214.91 which I removed the glibc files as Vangaurds will run it, so far it runs, just trying to update the flash to version 17, I'll see if I can get a newer Chromium working, I was having sandbox issues.

Give me an hour or two and I should have one for download.

42.x will work on systems with AMD CPUs. Intel CPU based systems will give you errors.

Edit: updated the pepper flash to the latest chromium-40.0.2214.91-17.0.0.188-vlina.sfs

For anybody that downloaded my previous one then here is the libpepflashplayer-17.0.0.188 just extract it to /usr/lib/chromium and edit /usr/bin/chromium

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--user-data-dir --ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib/chromium/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=17.0.0.188"

export CHROME_WRAPPER=$(readlink -f "$0")
export CHROME_DESKTOP=chromium.desktop

exec /usr/lib/chromium/chromium $CHROMIUM_FLAGS "$@"
I've uploaded http://smokey01.com/carolina/Geoffrey/V ... -vlina.sfs, I removed the glibc libraries that were included and replaced pepperflash with version 17.0.0.169.

Appears to run ok from the little testing I've done, it maybe possible I've missed something that I had already installed that it requires, but at a guess it should be fine as is.

Geoffrey, if I may make a request, could you do the same work (yank glibc) for the most recent Chromium 42 that peebee has posted? I can test ;)
