Use the Gslapt package manager to install libinput and xf86-input-libinput and then restart X. Libinput is used for Wayland input devices and xf86-input-libinput is a wrapper so Xorg-server can use it. It does not have all the options that the Xorg Synaptics driver offers, but it's better than nothing. On my laptop using libinput tap to click is disabled and two finger scrolling is enabled. I've read that some distros are shipping libinput by default.
thanks for the response - I will double check but I simply cannot do anything with the trackpad - can I somehow get back to a terminal so I can do this without X server running - I recall Ctrl Alt Backspace did nothing for me either...I can retry

Thanks for the pointer Mick, I had forgotten about simple.

No comment on your script as I opted for simple manual mount/dismounts.

Firewall on/off need and firewall automation

#464 Post by gcmartin »

Firewall toggler as part of the taskbar icon is a useful facility. @Smokey01's approach and I seem to remember that @01Micko/someone may have included that in their PUP distro.

But, I have a scenario for thought
If any user installs a utility that works in conjunction with LAN/WAN beyond what the system default(s) deliver in port use; is the firewall capable of offering a reconfiguration based upon the system's currently open ports when a new app(s) is running/started? Or, can a running firewall in Linux "pop" a message to desktop of any system app requesting services to a port which is not open (or is there a log recording this)? Thoughts on firewall technology as more and more apps work with LAN/WAN (which are extensions to the running system) ...

Taskbar icon that pertains to network services
@01Micko produced an upgrade to the PUP taskbar icon where in a hover over the icon, one could see the current IP address(s). This is a savings from having to multiple clicks to find the existing IP address. Is there a possibility that this feature could be added to FD700's taskbar too?

@step

Many thanks indeed for your precise and orderly directions, which I followed carefully. Everything performed faultlessly and all the DEB.txz files installed without errors. I opened my web browser and typed in: www.spotify.com and the website came up immediately. Everything functioned normally and I was able select and play songs.

So, mission accomplished without hassle! I am very pleased with the result and thank you again. I truly appreciate your most effective instructions, which have taught me something new. I also thank "jamesbond" for his sophisticated script. I was amazed at what it was doing, as I watched the terminal window!

@01micko, your script works well for my android 4.4.2 phone. Thanks.

Better to go with libmtp and simple-mtpfs (in the fd64-700 repo). Get those installed and reboot (so udev loads the rules).
Here is a script to try, use at own risk.

Sorry for the delay. If the mouse is completely dead, then there's probably a kernel patch that Knoppix is using to enable it, or it's just broke in the kernel version we're using. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace should work. If you still want to try libinput, using a USB mouse would be easier to use to install libinput if you have one. I see the mint folks are having problems too:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=187583
that's looking like some bug in recent kernels. At the bottom of that thread there's a suggestion for a ES1-512.

Since there's not a lot of difference we didn't think it worthy. I edited the third post of this thread to let people know which page of this thread corresponds with 701.

Fatdog701 issues on Dell Touchscreen AIO

#475 Post by gcmartin »

Hello FD development and THANKS for your work.

Nice "touch" (Touch tracking is accurate in this latest distro). 701 is really fast. Swap partition activated via terminal. Nice selection of features in the Menu. Seamonkey browser pops instantly. Instanteous locations of files obtained via "updatedb"/"locate ..." commands. This combines to a very responsive and very very fast system. Thank you very much for all of your hard work to produce something as nice as you have.

Booted without save session using option 3. Running LIVE via DVD.

Several issues:
  • Setup>Control Panel>Network>Hostname. Tapping to enter the hostname and typing in the new name, I cannot tap the OK button on screen. MUST use the mouse to tab/click. Subsequent screen are OK.
  • Unlike @BarryK's FirstRUN, the system's hostname changes DO NOT expand out across the local system's fields, as it should ... unless one is willing to stop everything and reboot. (Maybe @BarryK's FirstRUN might prove useful for future FDs)
  • @01Micko's utilities are an excellent addition to 701, found in the Control Panel>Desktop>Manage Desktop Startup>tab"System Startup..." to get the service which lands on taskbar.
  • I discovered using Control Panel>Updates>Get Flash that there is NO PATHING TO THE INTERNET even though my system sees the router and other LAN units, it does NOT navigate via URL. Message gotten "Download failed. Please try again."
Even though it has never been publicly stated, the taskbar for networking is geared for wireless vs wire. I found no way to get a network icon which shows IP address similar to mouseover @01Micko's did for community use couple years back.

Have not rebooted either of the 2 Dell desktop PCs I have (a 1GB BIOS P4 and a 4GB P4 UEFI AIO)

Thanks for this update, lost track of all the fixes for 700 so this helps, Also see an update in ARM from earlier this month is that going to be announced? I have been busy with Raspberry Pi, are the kernel sources the same as FD64-701?

I installed 701 to a 32gb flash drive:
Nice move Bill. 32Gb units are remarkably cheap now. Moves to 64Gb flash is a bad idea despite price drops and some advocacy. Too many issues with them, and not just the FAT boundaries. Flash drive booting with HD data, apps. & d/l s is best combination as latter are much more tolerant of constant overwrites, manipulations, etc.
update in ARM
- TD
Two riders: RPi B+ 2 is not entirely backwards compatible with previous version and a radical redesign is slated for the end of 2016 (which may appear to come around much sooner depending on one's already expired period of residence! It's an illusion, but ...)

In my Fatdog there is just "Update Flash Player" and the only thing it does is telling me that it is up to date.

But I have to report another issue:

Code: Select all

# grep DISTRO_VERSION= /etc/DISTRO_SPECS
DISTRO_VERSION=700
