How to copy files from Windows 8 pc to Tahr Pup PC?

#1 Post by jackluminous »

Can anyone give advice, a link or step by step instructions to enable me to copy files from a windows 8 pc to one running Tahr Pup via bi-directional ethernet cable

I assume that once set up this would be a faster method than copying files from the Windows 8 machine onto a flash drive and then copying those onto the Tahr Pup machine

help would be appreciated thx

Use a network share and do a normal copy. It doesn't know or care what OS is at the other end of the link.

i have tried a few things - Windows 8 PC seems to recognise my Linux PC through PING but in Networking it is showing the network as unidentified...

I ran the networking config programs on puppy and found my ip address as 169.254.178.250

any help? maybe I can get a linux distro running on my windows pc through a flash drive and try from there...

Well you can access files from windows with puppy but not the other way around as puppy does not include the SAMBA server by default.
Just mentioned in case you were trying to do that...ie windows will NOT see puppy.

I never use SAMBA and don't have windows 8 so don't have much else to say on the subject.

Its supposed to be a case enable shares to puppy on windows and use the puppy tools to access those shares.

If it drives you mad which I hope it won't there is always the option of adding an ftp server to windows...
