Introducing April64 (and April i686 on page 12)
Hi Guys:
While it might not be practical for some, I found that a 32 GB stick gives you plenty of room for pretty much everything. I have about 5 distros on different USB's and you can use an 8GB, but I certainly wouldn't go below that unless you don't intend to install any other applications. 2GB is definitely too small and 4GB is pushing the limit for sure.
Best,
Slavvo67

It may soon be easy to run puppy on a Chromebook.

April 6.9.4 note:
I was surprised and excited to see an even newer ABI Word. I tried to load a .docx file which immediately shutdown ABI Word. I thought that was one of their fixes on this version. Not sure if it's a Quirky issue or an ABI Word one but my best guess would be adding +1 to the track record of ABI Word - The program you want to love... but don't....

gparted problem solved
It seems that the gparted problem resided with the hard drive, it wasn't set with a msdos partition table, but a GPT (The GUID Partition Table (Globally Unique IDentifier) is a part of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) standard for the layout of the partition table on a physical hard disk. Many operating systems now support this standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table). And the 551 gparted 0.7.0 couldn't handle it (maybe the age of the release was the problem).
As this drive is one of the new batch of the 2tb expansion drives I wrote about last year (http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=95884, I suspect they all will now be GPT. They are still at least with a SATA drive interface inside the box so you can upgrade at a decent price.
Just as a point, it's easy to change the table when you set it up with gparted, goto the top menu bar and select 'DEVICE" and "Create Partition Table", you can select what you want here. Just remember that your removing the old partition tables (BOTH COPIES) and replacing them with new ones, NOTHING you had on the drive will exist or be recoverable when you say ok.

Try starting abiword from a terminal, see if it outputs anything useful when it crashes.slavvo67 wrote:April 6.9.4 note:

On the topic of Gparted, I think it was gcmartin who reported that the startup popup window text needs to be modified.
It warned about a problem with resizing a partition with Windows Vista in it -- no mention of Windows 7 and 8.
That text is very old. I have updated it to warn about 7 and 8 as well, and not to use Gparted to resize the partition.
Instead Windows has its own resize tool, use that to reduce the partition, that bootup Quirky and can then use Gparted to create Linux partitions in the freed-up space.
...words to that affect are now in the popup.

Hi BarryK:
When opening ABI Word in terminal and attempting to open a .docx document, the ABI Word application simply closes and the terminal reads without the quotes or the period "Aborted."
I noted that it does open the older format .doc forms but here it seems to not keep the formatting of the document. It might be a good idea to roll it back to ABI Word 3.0.0 but I'm not sure.
Thanks for the follow-up.
Kind regards,
Slavvo67

Ah, one other thing. I compiled 3.0.1 differently, I think that .docx support is now a plugin, previously it was compile-into the 'abiword' executable.slavvo67 wrote:Hi BarryK:

Run abiword, in the menu there is something for seeing what plugins are loaded.

There will be a new build of April64 in a couple of days, with the fixed wvdial in it.pakt wrote:Barry, is there a service pack or pet for the new version you compiled so I can test it?BarryK wrote:Ah, I think that I have got wvdial sorted out.
Well, my 3G modem works, but it will need to be tested with other hardware, along with usb-modeswitch, PupDial, etc.

I am away from home right now, so can't check, but see if this PET has the firmware you need:gschl wrote:My wlan

If not, if you can find it from another pup, that would be great, and I will put it into the PET.
