I don't really consider myself a regular, so, if anyone is offended I apologize. Long term lurker and user/proponent may fit better.
Because it may be that I have a defective download, (sorry, I didn't match the checksum), but I recently booted the live CD of Precise 5.6.1 on three newer laptops I was given, and
found a disturbing similarity.
Each of the three showed a refusal to reboot and shut down, hanging at those commands until I helped it happen. One laptop is a core duo, another a Pentium M, the third a Celeron one point something. (Ain't I just scientific?).
Is this a glitch in Puppy? Or did I just get a bad .iso?

Curiosity Regarding Precise 5.6.1
Hi there! And welcome to the Puppy Kennels! Like you, I too was a lurker for the longest time before I started posting way back in '06. lol! Then for the longest time they couldn't keep me quiet once I got going.
At any rate, you've hit, I believe anyway, a bug in the 5.6.1 Precise Puppy although I haven't been reading the bug reports for it under "BUGS". And I say this because - while the reboot one hasn't hit me yet - the shutdown one has, and it would seem to be at the most inconvenient of times. Puppy has been so consistent with shutdown that I've been accustomed to just getting up and leaving the computer after pressing "shutdown". Imagine my dismay when walking by and finding that the machine had been running all day long in 95+ degree weather! No more when using 5.6.1! Now I wait for the entire sequence to complete.
There is a new alpha out of 5.6.4 Precise if you'd like to try that and it may be found here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=87355 I know that when it comes to using an "alpha" many people are somewhat queasy but I figure that if it's a Puppy...
I hope that this has helped in some small way?
