Just curious if anyone has been able to put Pithos on Puppy? On Ubuntu it is easy to install from the command line but that doesn't seem to work in Puppy.
Thanks.

Anyone put Pithos in Puppy?
pithos in puppy
Hey KBD,
With so many members looking at your post, I am disappointed that no one had an answer re installing Pithos. Pandora is gaining in popularity and it would be nice to see one of the more knowledgeable members take a whack at it. I was using a Livio-Pandora radio for the past three years and it just died! My wife sorely misses it and it has been discontinued. With poor reviews of the two most popular replacements, the Squeezebox and the Mondo, I would like to use an old pc running Puppy instead.
Did you resolve your problem?
I see that Ubuntu will work, but I much prefer Puppy!
Bob

try using pianobar. Its an easy to use console player for pandora.I was using a Livio-Pandora radio for the past three years and it just died! My wife sorely misses it and it has been discontinued.
It too has had its outages while pandora changes its site from time to time, but its been stable for the last several months.

also on my windows box I use the standalone player from here:

and

apparently, the above works with wine. (I've not used the saver version)
I've never tried, but there's a (smallish) chance that pithos would work if you installed the .deb into lucid puppy (which can run ubuntu debs)
The problem I suspect would be dependencies. You would certainly need python (which is available as a pet) and others listed here
http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/
it might work though . . . .
I never really saw the need since pianobar works well. The only thing missing is the album covers, but it runs light on pretty old machines. (in fact, since it runs in console, you could probably put it on a really minimal install that doesn't even have an x server-- truly a dedicated machine that would replace the poster's now-dead pandora radio)
The other easy solution, of course, is to get a used iphone or ipod touch, to run pandora, and just leave it plugged into a stereo.

Thanks for the tips!
I am now running pianobar and it works fine, for me that is. It has been playing without any problems for two hours. My wife is not too happy with the console screen, she prefers the look that pandora has on Windows.
My iPod touch also works great, but she still prefers the larger screen on the Windows pc.
I really do not have the time right now to play around with Puppy. Next week I will try LMDE.
Thanks again!

The pc I would like to use is an old Dell Inspiron 2100 with 128mb ram, a Pentium 3 at 696.96mhz. It can't handle Firefox or Chrome and Pandora doesn't like any of the other Puppy browsers I have tried. Pandora says it requires an Intel Atom 1.6GHZ or faster and 1+GB ram, and 128+mbVRAM.
That's why I was hoping to try Pithos with Puppy. I'll try kubuntu next.
Thanks for the help sfeeley!
