The dumb question.
You are sure something is not going bad with your wireless hardware?
Wireless device is turned on before you boot Puppy?
Your problem should not be happening.
This, works sometimes, does not work others, is not normal.
Not all versions of Puppy work in all computers.
There is a newer version of Wary that just got released. It is a bug fix version released for testing.
Maybe it will work better for you.

Wireless Network Config Won't Save And.... [SOLVED!]
I would try Puppy 5.2.8
It is an update and bug fix for 5.2.5

One thing about browsers in Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 or 5.2.8
They come with a very basic Dillo browser. Not really designed for real browsing. The idea is the first time you click on the browse icon on the desktop. You are given a list of installable browsers, to select from, to make your main browser.
Also has Quickpet on desktop.
Has list of installable browsers if you decide to change latter on.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was reading there it said 5.2.8 was for i686. I'm not certain of this, but isn't the difference between i686 and i386 that one is for a user machine and one is for a server machine?
Please be patient. I'm pretty tech savvy, but new to this. I fully intend to learn what I can about programming so I can write my own stuff for puppy (Puppy is the bombdiggity and I'm determined to make it work and use it from here on out).
I also noticed Browser Linux and am interested as it's a derivative of Puppy (at least so far as I've seen, could be wrong) as an option for my son's pc since all he'll be doing is watching YouTube and playing flash games. My daughter's however needs the extras in Puppy since she's in high school and will be using it for printing homework and writing reports and whatnot.
Would it be possible to copy the netowrk manager from one of my Ubuntu machines and get Puppy to use it?
EDIT- I also need to find a tutorial on the Puppy firewall and how it works so I can run it and tweak my settings. It takes a long time to learn a new OS and Puppy is the one I think is worth learning everything.

5.2.8 has some i686 code to make it work better with newer hardware.I was reading there it said 5.2.8 was for i686. I'm not certain of this, but isn't the difference between i686 and i386 that one is for a user machine and one is for a server machine?
Do not get hung up about code class. That just identifies what class of hardware it was written for. Computer hardware classes: i286, i386, i486, i586, i686 etc... basically the code is tweaked to take advantage of the newer capabilities of the hardware. Most code is backward compatible.
Just try it. Works fine on my 8 year old Dell and 10 year old home built.
Puppy firewall,
It's a basic firewall, but does have some custom settings.
When you start the Firewall wizard you can scroll down to custom
To select individual settings.
Not a good idea to try and use another operating system network manager with Puppy. Need to use what is designed for Puppy.
Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 comes with option to use Frisbee, which sometimes works better for some people.

Well it turns out that the network manager in Wary Puppy 5.1.3 LTS works great. I swithced my network back to hidden but with one major change - switched from WEP to WPA security and BLAMMO! In less than an hour I had two machines installed to hd and surfing with reboots to make sure they'd keep the connection at startup (they did) and had time to do some lollygagging and get all the browser settings air tight. Tomorrow I'll work on getting the browsers running a little more to my liking and be done with it.
I want to thank y'all from the heart for throwing in and helping me slay this dragon. Over the course of this journey I've become an expert on wireless connections in Puppy, and in general. Feel free to holler if anybody needs a hand getting one going. I'm easy to find. Just go to Texas Fishing Forum and look for madchad in the Off Topic section. I post there every day or two.
Thanks again fellers.
