I knew it was something stupid simple! Right there on your screen shot your package shows to be a tgz, but mine is just gz. So, a quick rename and bingo it loaded like a dream. Thanks Joe, this thing is awsome. :D Next comes cups but not tonight, I have to get to bed, early day tomorrow.
I carefully plan ALL my random acts!

the GUI will come up now for you also just checked on a clean system
big-bass, did you get my PM with the errorlog for this? (I reckoned others would not be interested in a test's log file, but maybe PMs aren't getting sent.)

Yes,I got the Pm and all looked well it was detected and switched it only seems that from the GUI nothing was selected or the switching didnt acutally take place because of the glitch in the kernel

I will forward your data to the author of the script to see if we can debug it further and verify more steps to pin point if it will be fully compatible or not

Okayy. No GUI came up, except for a blue screen to display a message something like: "Not connected".

if I just copy the vmlinuz file from the most recent pup, is the kernel then more recent or did I just broke the whole thing?

its much more involved than that

I'm pretty busy lately (with my real job) but when I get a chance I'll look into your wifi module again

meanwhile find a version that detects your wifi and write down what is being used

I boot TXZ from the CD. I get the feeling that the CD drive would go on spinning for ever, except I stop it by hitting the eject button and pushing the tray back in. This stops the eternal spin, and is really not a problem, but I didn't have to do this with previous puppys I've adopted.

Wondering whether others experience this?

This quirk is more than compensated by the satisfaction of having the PC cleanly and completely shut down by a key click in TXZ. :P

Does TXZ have a command to merge a .iso and its delta to produce the upgrade to a later version of an iso? I need to upgrade one of the other puppies.

I can see there is no difference manager in the TXZ menu, but maybe it's available on the command line.

openbox + tint2

#313 Post by johnnywinner »

I've been using openbox and tint2 in Kwort (based on CRUX), so I went ahead and built them for TXZ_pup.

In TXZ_pup, just rename the file (volumeicon and gsimplecal are tgz files and the rest are txz), and click on it. To start openbox, drop out of X and type xwin openbox.

You'll need imlib2 from big_bass's post on tint2 on page 16. direct link:
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/imlib2-1.4.2-i486-3_SLXR.txz

Notes: openbox, obconf, and tint2 were built using slkbuild and SLKBUILDS from Salix OS. volumeicon and gsimplecal were built using amigo's src2pkg. These are the latest versions that would compile in TXZ_pup.

volumeicon and gsimplecal are supposed to work with tint2, but I haven't figured that out.

Wow I had hoped to use this distro.

But it fail to load a working driver for the LAN Ethernet thing.
wired.

All the other Puppies do work with my Acer D250.

Take Dpup it says it use the driver Atheros AR8132 Fast Ethernet

What am I suppose to do now when I have no internet connection?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

ath_pci

install a third party driver atheros not all the drivers get into the official kernel they have to be compiled in manually then added to the cd

#317 Post by big_bass »

when firefox updates you can fix the home page
by running this script

restore-home-firefox

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

#restore-home-firefox big-bass

echo 'browser.startup.homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/home.htm
browser.startup.homepage_reset=http://en-US.start3.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official'>/usr/lib/firefox/browserconfig.properties

big_bass......
I have been trying to get Gramps to run on TXZ but I am struggling. I have tried the one from the slackware pkg site and loaded all dependencies but when I run from terminal I get an error saying no gtk module (can't remember exact phrase). I also tried loading this gramps, pet from here http://dotpups.de/puppy4/dotpups/Person ... 1-i486.pet
along with this python pet from here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 05&t=49138 and I am still having problems. I have loaded these two .pets into the latest spup with success. If you are anyone else could point me in the right direction i would appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Cur Dog

EDIT:
STOP THE PRESS...............
I started over with a clean pup save and installed gramps from the slackware pkg's along with
python-2.5.2-i486-3_SLXR.txz
pycairo-1.6.4-i486-3_SLXR.txz
pygobject-2.15.4-i486-3_SLXR.txz
pygtk-2.12.1-i486-3_SLXR.txz from your TXP-PUP site
and it is now working. Obviously I had something messed up in previous attempt. Again I want to thank you for such a great masterpiece that you created here in TXP-PUP.

upgrading xorg

that will be a bit of of work because
the upgraded xorg caused problems (at least for me)
if you follow the complaints/bug reports

I dont think its worth the effort on this version of TXZ pup

when I upgrade all the packages , glbc and kernel
and the compiler it would be ok to try again with a later xorg version
