because no other version does what it does

I totally agree, even in the Puppy 6/Saluki thread people are asking for the

ability to remove core programs, or have a base stripped down

Puppy......without realising or appreciating your hard work and success

I was happy to promote you in that thread, but I have a curiosity....

Have you posted links/advertised TXZ Pup on the Slackware forums, and

if so how is it received there?

Is there an easy way to boot into different versions of TXZ Pup, say, by having different save files?

Examples might be -

Save 1 - Internet/mail

Save 2 - Wordprocessing/Scanning/Printing

Save 3 Secure Banking/passworded sites

Save 4 Games

Is that doable? Frugally from CD or Installed to Pendrive?

I haven't actually tried, though....I thought I'd ask first, as I'm not very

good at getting myself out of a mess once I'm in it

I really would like to try TXZ on my old PIII laptop. Unfortunately, after loading TZX off a cd into a partition on my hard drive, I can't get my wireless adapter to be recognized. My wireless adapter is a Prism 2 internal from 1999 or so. In Puppy 5.xx, it works fine and is detected immediately using the prism_usb driver. I can't find that driver in TXZ. Am I missing something? I also haven't had luck with my pcmcia wireless card, a D-Link DWLG650.
Using this laptop with an ethernet connection doesn't meet my needs. Does anyone have a suggestion as what to do to ge my wireless working with TZX?

Hey Big Bass,

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, I've been a bit busy lately. That tint2 package works well, and there are no issues with its functions. Thanks for checking that out. Only issue is I don't think it has a systray like later versions of tint2.

If I get some time soon I will check it out some more.

TXZ is my everyday OS at the moment!

I'm going to download several txz files into another partition and fetch them after my install. I am anxious to give this distro a whirl.

I have been using TXZ since the first week you posted and it has done everything that I have ask of it. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated. In the past few days I have found that I cannot connect to my wireless if I try to turn on security. In the past I always just left it open but I now have a lot living around me trying to get some free internet. I tried to load a pet for Simple Network Setup version 2.1 from here:

I can run the app and connect to the internet with no issues. When I reboot is when my problem starts. First thing is it drops to the command line and I have to run the xorg wizard to return to desktop. Once back to the desktop the systray shows "none" for free memory. At this point I try to reboot and the "reboot" option from the menu does not function. If I Cntrl-Alt-Backspace and drop to the command line I can successfully reboot but the cycle just starts again. If I remove the pet and reboot once I run the xorg wizard and return to the desktop things are back to "normal". So after all of my babbling I am trying to figure out if this should work with TXZ.

I need to warn again about this package. It has /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and rc.shutdown, which might break an older Puppy. Any recent Woof-build will be ok.

*it would be best to avoid programs that only work on some versions
and stick to apps that are linux compatible working across various versions and distros

I will be replacing non linux standard programs one at a time
so that updating will be part of the plan

Apparently I did not see the forest for the trees. I called my self investigating that before I posted for help. Thanks for the quick reply. I will continue to try and figure out why I can't seem to get the other network wizards to connect to the internet.

wifi radar needs pygtk and PYTHON to compile that is a big list
note: these were all compiled from source and then packaged as tgz packages
I needed to tweak wifi radar to work in the menu and run

this was a lot of work but if helps you get online its worth it

my network cable didn't work until I plugged it in my docking station, then everything worked fine. I immediatly installed icewm and another theme and now it looks beautiful

pup_save-Internet.2fs
pup_save-Wordprocessing.2fs
pup_save-Banking.2fs
pup_save-Games.2fs


and when you boot they come up in the options
you select which you prefer to use

Is there a .flv player in TXZ puppy? Here's a streaming radio station, http://72.251.217.70/sky_romantica_aacplus.flv
and when I click on it mplayer gets called to handle it, it buffers a few seconds of the program, but no sound is produced. It continues collecting the stream (blinky working away full tilt) but no sound ever appears.

I didn't think mplayer was a flash player, anyway. But I'm wondering if there is a way to play this .flv stream.

Ah, thanks. I just assumed that the iso would have all fixes applied to it.
So you supply the libcups.so.2 do you? What about the other missing dependencies, don't they matter?

EDIT. I can answer my own question. I downloaded the 4 missing lib files from thuxxx's lib site: http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/Libs/ and shoved them in /lib and added links for the exact names that epdfview demands and it now works, i.e., epdfview finally seems to work.

As the tile says, I'm trying to unsquash the TXZ_Pup up_450.sfs on my Mac and I get "Can't find a SQUASHFS superblock on pup_450.sfs"
Any other pupplet I tried unsquashed fine so far.
I did download a couple of times just in case, and the md5 was fine both times.
Any insight?
