MPlayer with Audio Filters?

I'd like to use Puppy to play podcasts at a higher tempo (faster speed with same pitch). I tried invoking the "TAP Pitch Shifter" <http://tap-plugins.sourceforge.net/ladspa/pitch.html> from the command line, but Puppy's default MPlayer does not appear to recognize audio filters.

ScaleTempo audio filter <http://scaletempo.sourceforge.net> has a patch for mplayer-1.0rc2, but that would require a recompile.

Has anyone found a Puppy 4.x or 5.x ready audio player that can play at a higher tempo?
