How does Puppy configure an internet connection? I had it working and everything was fine, then my modem needed resetting which is a bit awkward so I browsed through the 'network' menu to see if there was anything that would reset modem. Big mistake! I think it was PureFTPd that broke things. I thought that maybe it would send a message to the modem and it may reset, but now when I try to connect to the internet it won't even attempt to find the address, it'll just tell me there is no connection.
I've reset the modem and I have the internet working with a frugal Puppy. It is the same version: Puppy 4.2 deeper thought v2, and no matter how hard I try I cannot get the internet back up and running with this full install. I've been through the Wizard several times, each time it'll say everything is successful, but it isn't. I've tried turning off the modem, then trying the wizard again, but nothing works.
What files are involved with making the connection? I've looked and cannot find anything that is useful. Any help much appreciated, I'm finding it hard to even trouble shoot this. If I were to 'upgrade' with the same version what would stay and what would go?
ifconfig is the same on the working frugal as the non-working full install. I'd like to compare the filesystems to see which files are different but I don't know which app to use? Maybe then I could change things back to the way the were. I did notice that I had Wvdial.conf which I've deleted because I don't have it with the frugal so it isn't needed, but I can find any differences.
Can't connect to the www, though all seems well (Solved)

Oakems;
When I can't find a solution for a full install problem (very rare)
I use the installer and run upgrade with the same cd.
Partition and grub don't need changes.
It hasn't affected any changes I've made, but I do have backups
to flashdrive just in case.
Actually, this is the only time I would use upgrade with puppy.
For changing versions I prefer a fresh install.

I'd look up "network" with pfind and see if there are any file
differences between working and defective installs.

Well, resolve.conf for some reason was only a symlink so it was missing information. Using the Wizard created most of the files needed for the connection but left resolve.conf as a symlink.
I'm not sure exactly what I did but I was messing around with the 'network' menu, and trying all the options there to see if one could reset the modem without me having to manually go unplug the thing. I think it was after I tried the PureFTPd file server, I turned it on and I think that's when it stopped trying to even connect.
Could this be a bug then? I've checked inside resolve.conf and is has belkin and my nameserver, is says at the top it is created by dhcpcd for interface eth0. Obviously not if it already exists as a symlink. Should I report this as a bug?
