Has anyone got Java working for Opera?
Has anyone here tell if they have got Java working for Opera 10?
I have tried all the various howto's listed here in the forums but have not been successful.
I tried the hardway listed here - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=21505
and the pet method but with no luck. When I open a java applet the browser just freezes and I need to kill opera.
Opera support (http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/459/) says nothing is required if Opera can validate the path from preferences which it does for me so not sure what is really wrong. I tried with symlinks/without them, edited the .deployment.properties file unde /root to include /usr/lib/opera
any help?

Niteendlewis, could you possibly provide a link to the specific Opera .pup that you downloaded? If you wouldn't mind doing that, as I have some free time this weekend, I'd be more than happy to get a chance to play with Opera and see if I can get java to work.

edit:
found this, it doesn't cover version 10, but it might help.

have java(jre1.6.0_15) in opera10 working and use opera by choice over seamonkey. remember the
am using this opera10in 430small.
perhaps it is an issue with the specific webpage you are trying to view, post the url and we can test it.
is java working in your seamonkey?
from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45244Java in Opera. Open Opera and click Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Content. Make sure Enable Java is checked and click Java Options. Click Choose to find the path jre1.6.0_15/lib/i386. Select that and click Validate Java Path.

All right, finally got around to installing Opera and I must say that it is quite the fancy browser! I installed it according to aarf's post and, at first java didn't work. Did a little bit of poking and found this:
I hit ctrl+alt+backspace, entered "startx" opened Opera, and Java worked. Thank you very much aarf!
Niteendlewis, try the above, it worked for my install of 4.3, and test Opera and java here.

Select that and click Validate Java Path. (aarf says: if you navigate away from that "Choose to find path" pop-up without closing it, you will need to Ctrl+alt+BackSpace to restartx to continue. looks like a flaw in opera, my opera10beta2 at least. if you close the popup by selecting an option then there is no issue.)

thanks for the replies... I did try them out but no difference... the browser just freezes when I tried the Java Test Page. If I have Java Console I can see the class files for that site are loading.. is there some kind of log file to see what really is causing the browser to freeze up?
In Opera you can enable the console with:
Click “Tools

Just for clarities sake, since I'm still unsure of your method of installation,
would you please post your method for installing java, the specific version you installed, where you got your Opera package, and what version of puppy linux your running.
This information would be a great help.
