Ok this is what i get when i try and run steam for the first time Steam is already running. and i already checked the process manager and its not running?...
Randomly works now.

From what I remember it's a little (or not so little) app which lets you download certain games (hosted via steam), update them and such like.
My last experience of it was painful, I decided to install Half life 2 episode 1 (which in my opinion was also painful). In order to install it it needs to be registered. To register it you need to install steam - which is also on the CD.
In my case I had no physical phone/internet connection so did it via a GPRS/EDGE mobile phone .. Unfortunately Steam insisted it needed to update itself before anything I could register - that used up 100 euro's of data credit to get half way through, which was my limit ... so you could say I got burnt.
Just having a quick look around, it appears it run under wine in Linux as there isn't a native linux client yet .. though this may have changed.
