Frugal installs to USB flash does have save button. As reported reported by Rodney above, the first message is displayed, remaining on screen without the save being executed.BarryK wrote:I am running EasyPup 2.3 from CD right now, with a savefile, and I don't have a "Save" icon on the desktop.Rodney Byne wrote:Barry,
pc close down saves quickly to the save file as expected.
But when the Save button on desktop is pressed,
the usual yellow info box appears, saying queued
and another box will later appear to show actual
saving, but after a very long wait this doesn't happen??
The yellow queued box just stays permanently on screen??
What does this all mean?
I didn't think the EasyPup has that save icon anymore. What are you doing differently?
EasyPup version 2.3.1, released June 6, 2020
Re: The Save button
Many thanks for that confirmation. The problem is machine specific, which I've read about in these pages but never experienced before.I only tested booting EasyPup 2.3 from a usb-stick. Worked ok.
I don't go to the trouble of burning the iso file to optical media anymore. But, will give it a go.
EDIT:
Burnt the ISO to a CD-R, booted it on my desktop PC, both in legacy-BIOS mode and in UEFI-mode, both worked.
Got the CD running on an HP laptop, albeit with long boot time. So far found the CD won't boot on an ASRock/Intel/4Gb with nv card and an ECS board with ?? (need to interrogate). Will run through more machines after watering gardens!
There emerged some annoyances reported previously:
The default sound setting is far too low @ 63% for the pathetic sound systems on laptops and built-in monitors. Woof woof is a most valuable feature for testing machines. Recommend ~90% - what's the problem reducing it immediately after boot-up?!
Tapping is not set by default making completion of first boot start-ups extremely tedious on laptops.
SM opens in a small panel rather than the usual full page?
As reported recently, it would be very helpful to have an invitation to connect wi-fi immediately the initial panel settings appears so that all those things requiring a connection are attended to upfront - notably time set from InterWeb - are completed first and before X- is re-started.
Otherwise, everything works, albeit overkill^2 with options, settings, etc.
How about a basic version just capable of minimal operation?
Hope these comments help...

EasyPup version 2.2.7
This has been a fun diversion. It is a "classical Puppy", circa 2012-2013 (the era of Racy and wary 5.5), blended with features from EasyOS Buster-series, and all the packages as in EasyOS Buster-series.
There is an intro page here:
https://bkhome.org/linux/easypup-a-blen ... asyos.html
Blog announcement:

Download version 2.2.7:

The ISO is a hybrid-ISO, that may also be written to a USB-stick. It will boot on traditional-BIOS PCs as well modern UEFI PCs. Minimum specs are 64-bit CPU, 1024x768 screen, probably 1GB RAM will work, but will be happier with 2GB. Genuine PC only, no support for Chromebook or Macbook. The old PCMCIA and ISA buses are not supported.
Who will use it? I don't know, anyone who wants to I suppose. It has the Racy/Wary 5.5 flavour, with lots of new features and packages, so I guess anyone who likes a "classical pup" but updated.
The EasyOS thread is here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=109958
...we have been discussing EasyPup in that thread, but it may cause confusion, hence I started this new thread.
Let me know if you discover anything that needs fixing...

But that just moves the broken menu problem to EasyOS.
I will update all the SFSs when EasyOS 2.3.1 is released, so menu will be correct in both Easys.

I am not surprised. The "share" icon was developed for EasyOS. I did do some basic fixes for EasyPup, but didn't test it. Thanks for reporting, have added it to the to-do list.Rogebe wrote:Hello,
I tried Puppyshare but it seems that we cannot configure the samba or SSHFS server. The button setup closes the window?

psynclient is a PET created by mistfire:foxpup wrote:Got the same on my dell vostro 1510.Rogebe wrote:Hello, Barry,
On my HP Compaq 6530b, it is not possible to start the touchpad configuration (psynclient).
synclient does work, so it is psynclient.
I got the same on fossapup (beta), which is unexpected.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=117240
It was working, last time I tried it.
I want to bring out Easy 2.3.1 pronto, so for now will do a quick fix, fallback to using flsynclient.
One thing you could check -- run "psynclient" in a terminal, see if it aborts with an error message.

Re
I have a problem with Pmount.
When I plug in a USB stick, it does not appear in the icons. You must use Pmount to mount it. And restart the X server to see it on the desktop.
I don’t have this problem with the HP Compaq.
I hope these posts don’t bother you . I just want to help by reporting the bugs encountered.

Pburn blu-ray writer
Hi Barry
I use Easypup2.13 as my main operating system. I have an Acer Revo RL80 .When I burn a program to a CD/DVD I get no feedback on the screen, ie burning track1, track2 etc. I use Pburn from the Menu.

'Fraid it's same old, same old. D/l twice, reburned twice. Changed video cards, changed machines, doesn't even run on laptop. Usually stalls at loading vmlinuz... but sometimes get EDD Error loading.... sectors... (long list). It is NOT my kit!
Double checked Slacko 6.9.9.9 - never fails, not on any machine, video card - probably the best disc in my massive armoury for dependability. Vastly underrated project! Come back Michael...

failure to boot all the way
Hi Sage,
Boot failed for me with an error about a file being unreadable with another version on USB stick. The drive had mounted fine just after I dd'd it but afterwards wouldn't mount at all. "You picked a fine time to fail me Lexar."
Have you tried another USB stick or optical disk?
