According to the Cnet archive, your PC had 256mb of RAM when it left the factory, so we'll assume you have 256mb of RAM. To run any version of Puppy successfully, you need to create a 256 mb Swap Partition (or Swap File).

if your PC has less than 512mb of RAM you will need a Swap Partition (or Swap File) so that
RAM + Swap = 512mb
Reboot and Puppy will use the Swap as extra "virtual RAM"

If all else fails I would set up another partition, do a Frugal Install into the new partition, then amend Grub so you have a choice at bootup between Full and Frugal.

It's a long-shot, but sometimes one install method works when the other don't.

MBR is the Master Boot Record. When you install Windows or
Ubuntu, they put their own bootloader into the MBR (without even telling you - which I think is a bit rude).

Fortunately this is not a big deal.

To install Legacy Grub:
1. click Menu > System > Grub bootloader config
2. choose Simple install
3. choose Standard console
4. /dev/sda1 (as the location for the Grub files to go into)
5. install Grub to the MBR

Then you should be able to boot from the HDD.

Smaller JPGs and PNGs will show, while larger ones behave in this way. I've used MtPaint to "crop" my PNG, so it should display directly.

As you can see, my /boot/grub folder has a lot of files in it that are not in your /boot/grub.
