431 Final Observations
NOTE: I observed and reported items 1 through 4 below in 431 RC1 and 431 RC2. I am now reporting the same in 431 Final. Frankly, I am disappointed so see three significant problems ignored. Why?

While not a dev, I do enjoy tracking and browsing Puppy dev efforts. And it appears to me that Puppy is rapidly out-growing this forum. Looking down from 10000 feet, the forum is (sorry) a mess. I'm in my third or fourth year as a Puppy user and I still have trouble finding and following projects ...

i am reluctant to use corporate america for things that can be had else where as it tends to add a distasteful flavour to the whole project also if it is under your control you can correct issues. like this: below cannot see the full page in my screen (to the right) and there is no way to get to ...

Slaxer_Pup is super
Joe,
Just a note to share how incredibly solid and reliable Slaxer_Pup has been. You managed to breathe new life into my former favorite Puppy, 4.1.2. The combination of 4.1.2 and Slackware stability and hardware detection makes for, dare I say it, the best Puppy ever.

Hiveman, perhaps it will reassure you to hear that the touch pad and external USB mouse on my Dell 8200 laptop work perfectly well under 4.3 "small". No disappearing pointer or intermittent behavior.
You might check to determine if your 8200 has the last BIOS release. Mine does. A BIOS reset would ...

Size versus feature set
Forgive me, but I don't see either side of this discussion getting much traction. It does not appear to me to be an "either/or" matter and the solution is as old as the hills. Permit Puppy to remain small, easily downloaded and low resource while making it *simple* to select and install additional ...

CD ripping issues in 4.3 final
Two observations:
1. cdparanoia segfaults in both 4.3 main and small kernel 2.6.30.5. It does not segfault in 4.3 main kernel 2.6.25.16.
2. Ripoff consistently dies in mid full-disk rip. It's cpu utilization then goes from ~1% to 90+% and the process must be killed. Observed in all tested 4.30 ...

430 Xorg/X related instability
I'm observing a particular and fatal instability in 430, both 2.6.31.5 "small" (am presently testing main) and 2.6.25.16. The problem seems related to Xorg and window manipulation over time in a given session. It tends not to occur during sessions in which there's little or no window creation ...

430 standard 2.6.30.5 - significant problems (resolved)
Update: pup-430small runs very well. No issues observed.
430 standard 2.6.30.5 appears to be experiencing rather serious problems related to module loading. Results vary from boot-to-boot. I captured /var/log/messages on one occasion in which neither network or audio setup worked - at one point the ...

CAUTION - Safecopy - CAUTION
Just to let everyone know that running Safecopy on a floppy disk on my system works - once. Safecopy leaves the drive (not the disk) in an unknown and inoperable state. The drive stops working until the BIOS seeks the drive during boot. A soft reboot or power-off does not recover the drive! An ...

I'd prefer to see this thread tee off with the following working hypothesis:

Everyone simply promoting their favorites apps and utilities will not a great Puppy release make. There has to be a ...

Windows and Linux Wisdom
I'll throw my four-cents in at this point.
