SNS not connecting to cable can't delete wifi settings

#1 Post by Marley »

Hi,

I have cable internet but yesterday it was down so I hooked up a wifi antenna that I have and got on to check my email via a local wifi that I can use.

In the SNS set up it allows you to delete the internet configurations via the panel - if you have 2 settings they will be numbered 1 and 2. Yesterday when I added the wifi I had the wifi setting and the cable setting. 1 and 2 respectively.

A couple of times yesterday I even deleted each of these settings by mistake by clicking on the buttons 1 or 2 and that deletes them. No problem.

Today, though, I can't delete wifi (setting 1 right now) though I can delete setting 2 (cable) no problem.

On top of that, even if I unplug the wifi, SNS will not jump to use the 2nd setting for cable - it just says it can't access any internet connection.

I have had to delete the cable configuration (number 2) and everytime I've gone online start from scratch creating a connection via SNS.

Is there a way to try deleting this setting on the control panel or a file I can delete somewhere that will get rid of the wifi settings on SNS?.

Thanks.

I found a file (aptly named :) Simple_Network_Setup and in that a connections file that had the wireless info along with the cable connection info.

I deleted the wireless (wlan) and so now it does not appear in the Barry's Simple Network Setup menu.

Wonderful. :)

New Question though - there's another folder called -

wpa_supplicant.conf

which I have figured is a 'configure' file ??

In this file there is this code:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ap_scan=1

network={
ssid="WTA Public"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk=e13731. . . (bunch of numbers)

}

Is it ok to delete this file? I figure it's the set up for the wifi and just taking out the information from the config folder might have just taken wifi off the menu when what I want is for it to be forgotten all together - I mean deleted. :)

Thanks for any advice. I tend to mess things up quite easily deleting stuff so I wanted to check that it's ok. :oops:

the wpa_supplicant conf would only be used IF its trying to use wifi in the first place so in effect would be ignored unless you use wifi in the future.

hope that helps
