CUPS working.
Xsane not properly working for me.
Light and heavy enrcyption not working for me. Does it depend on the kernel modules? I can't mount encrypted savefiles by filemnt, too.
The kernel can't chroot a 32 bit filesystem.
PPM bug /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu link related solved for me.
If I right-click a large file and choose "copy" the copying has an odd behaviour: a blank windows sometimes remains at the end of the copy and I must kill it or during the copy error messages are displayed about the missing copy in course.

Is the single patch about PPM and symlinks in /lib and /usr/lib related disposable? I want to use it in prealpha release and in xanad's releases.

Hello 666philb

Thanks for this. It's good to have a 64 bit Puppy to play with. I've been using Fatdog for a while. The most recent Puppy, I have still installed, is Pemasu's Precise 372.

The Woof-CE Savefile - shutdown bug is alive and well. See page 3.

To work around it, I have moved the savefile to an F2FS partition on a small SSD, but kept the read-only files in the FAT partition with my other Woof2 puppies and fatdog.

F2FS doesn't care about clean shutdowns and Windows can't read it. So I don't get the error in the Messages or the abuse from Windows.

The only quirk with this arrangement is that tp64 finds the ZDRV in the same location as the savefile not in the same location as the puppy base sfs.

I noticed that the create savefile text says that it will create a save partition on a linux filesystem. It doesn't seem to offer to create a savefile under those circumstances. I didn't try it, so I don't know what it would actually do. I created the savefile on the FAT partition, tested it there, then moved it to the F2FS partition.

Now I have to try and remember how to add launchpad PPAs to the package manager, like I did in Precise 372, so that I can install the latest stuff.

Thanks again.

EDIT: I meant save folder not partition.

EDIT 2: I've found that there is a zdrv boot parameter that can specify the file explicitly.

there's no patch... this one's just a less hacky build (still hacky though)

can you try stemsees kernel that you had success with and see if chroot works.

as for rox ...yes i've had that a few times... you could try slackos or aprils one (available on ibiblio) see if that's better.

In what way?

It would help if you would identify the model and driver.

It was working in prealpha release by fatdog hplip_scan_fd600-3.14.4.pet hacked renaming /usr/lib64 as /usr/lib. I have used the same pet packaged as hplip_scan_fd600-3.14.4-1.pet. The scanner is the one in the all-in-one printer HP Photosmart C3190. hplip_print works and the printer correctly installs. When I launch xsane in console no errors are displayed but I have not the window where are the scanner settings (Save-View window): only a tiny window with header "Standard options photo" (xsane version 0.999). I thought it was taking the webcam as scanner (I had this trying xsane in debian) and tried "modprobe -r uvcvideo" but without success.

Touch screen tracking issue in TahrPUP64-6035

#92 Post by gcmartin »

Hello @Billtoo.

I have been a user of touch for over 4 years with PUP distros. The very 1st OOTB solution was @TaZoC's Lighthouse64, @01Micko helped me step thru an implementation for his Slacko64, a year ago.

After resisting for couple of years, FATDOG added similar touch ability in FD7. Then @StemSee added it in his EmSee distros.

Earlier this year, @01Micko expressed the problem. hinting at resolution possibly through the PUP build process.

You, I and many other members and their families and friends are acquiring these touch devices, more and more as time progresses. Hopefully, more and more distro developers will embrace this ability in there distros. I am hopeful that by Christmas 2016 all new PUP distros will come with this ability, OOTB, if built using WOOFCE.

Thanks for the PM. We can hope that as TahrPUP64 moves out of Beta this issue along with the other issues, already reported by membership, will disappear.

Thanks for your PM.

Switching Kernels

#94 Post by LateAdopter »

To make sure I understood the experiment, I have booted TP64 with the Fatdog 3.18.7 kernel.

I renamed the kernel to fdlinuz and the kernel modules sfs to kernel-modules.sfs and put them in the same directory as the TP64 equivalent files.

I created a new boot menu entry with:

kernel /tp64/fdlinuz zdrv=sda5:/tp64/kernel-modules.sfs etcetera...

That worked perfectly. So it's possible to switch between kernels with just a boot menu entry.

Audio Adapter PC-Speaker - pcsp

OpenGL

There is a problem with the kernel_sources-3.14.45-tahr64.sfs,I was
unable to compile the proprietary Nvidia Ion driver on this pc or the

Xsane works using fatdog kernel 3.18.7. I renamed kernel-modules as zdrv e used the corrispondent vmilinuz-3.18.7 to boot. Kernel 3.18.7 can chroot a 32 bit filesystem.

Tahrpup64 6.0.3.5
Live CD made with Burniso2cd
md5 check good
Burn check OK

Intel i7 2600K
8GB ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX 960

Boots to a black screen.

Have tried pfix=nox
Boots to black screen.
No prompt.

Boot process seems normal to the point of changing over the graphics.

Maybe no support in the kernel for this graphics hardware
Using the latest Nouveau driver?

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Mostly running ok. Good job.

Nice to see netmon_wce make an appearance.

Some oddities though. Why the ancient version of dir2pet? The current one supports xz compression, this one doesn't. (BTW, the advancecomp bug was squashed ages ago).

JWM themes need to be updated. The xslt method in Joe's docs works. I did have a script somewhere but can't find it at the moment. Will post when found.

I notice a few library conflicts, jpeg v8 and v9.

Code: Select all

 gcc -O2 -Wall -pipe -lXpm -ljpeg -lpng12 -ltiff -o xonclock xonclock.o placement.o cache.o parse.o image.o pmdesktop.o png.o jpeg.o tiff.o -lpthread -lXpm -ltiff -ljpeg -lpng -lXft -lXext -lX11 -lXrender -lm

png v1.2.50 and v1.4.17beta

Code: Select all

root# ./xonclock
xonclock-0.0.9.3: parse.c:117 Unable to open config file: /root/.xonclockrc
libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.2.50

This might cause other issues, can't be sure.

@james C. I see your retrovol doesn't show up (coz it's black and bg is black). I have patched retrovol so that you can choose the icon colour from the 'Config Window'. Once chosen the first time retrovol needs to be restarted. After that the colour will change in an instant. This is because it writes the icons to $HOME instead of /usr/share/retrovol. I did this so it is multiuser friendly. Source is at my github https://github.com/01micko/retrovol/tree/speaker.

I'll attach a pet compiled in tahr64.

:)
hi mick,

oops accidently let the old dir2pet back in!

it would be good to have that script to convert JWM themes ... i couldn't get the command to work for some reason.

those libpng and libjpeg are from april as is a lot of stuff (just for now) but will be removed... although i might keep libjpeg.so.9 (not the dev) just for aprils cups if i can't get the ubuntu one working.
cheers
