Trying to Upgrade Bison

Compiling In Slacko 5.7, frugal install.
The devx_slacko_5.7.sfs version I installed seems to have bison-2.5.1. I need to use bison-2.6+ to compile qucs. I made a bison-2.6.1-i686.pet from new2dir and dir2pet , installed it and the terminal still reads bison 2.5.1 for the version.
Any suggestions?
