Firefox on Lucid 525 Retro

Hi all,

I just instlled Lucid Puppy 525 Retro.
When given a choice of browsers, I clicked on Firefox.
The list showed three PET packages, the most recent being Firefox-4.0-Lucid.pet , so that is what I downloaded and installed.
When the Firefox opened up and connected to their web site it said I needed to upgrade to version 11 (Firefox 11.0 for Linux i686).
Should I try and upgrade? Does this Puppy have the necessary libraries to run the new Firefox?
If I do upgrade, should I uninstall this version 4.0 first?

Thanks.

I'm running Firefox 11 and SeaMonkey 2.8 in Lucid Retro so there shouldn't be a problem.

First, if you update the PPM (see screenshot) then newer versions of Firefox will be available (see other screenshot).
I just installed Firefox 11 and am posting from it now.

I'd probably uninstall the older version first....just to be cautious. HTH.

Almost missed this post, the actual Lucid Retro thread is

Running Firefox 11

Thanks, James. I am running Firefox 11 right now.

So I guess it is not recommended to download Firefox directly from their site and try to install it? What should I do when the Firefox tells me that updates are available? Wait until there is a pet package for it?

Cheers.

Once Firefox (or SeaMonkey) is installed I just let them auto update.Usually it's just a small quick process and seems to work well. But, I probably wouldn't install an older version from a pet and then update over a big version jump ....like from FF 8 to 11.

Playdayz has been busy keeping all the browsers updated....just remember to keep the PPM updated to see the latest pets available.

Thanks for this thread, and Thanks to all that work to make Puppy and these programs available. I did not know this until just recently. I am running 5.2.5 and recently installed Seamonkey 2.7 then upgraded to 2.8 through the help menu >search for updates. It seems to be fine.
Cheers
