How about a link, so we're sure we're looking at the same program? :?

I took a crack at this one about a year ago and failed horribly and miserably and things didn't work out too well, would be nice if someone could actually get it working in Puppy.

I'll second that as I can't seem to get any where with it either.

Trying DeVeDe and another DVD authoring tool

#6 Post by Hotdog »

DeVeDe is one that I haven't seen. Will try it and report back. Meanwhile, I've been having good results with DVD Styler. You can find a Debian version at http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/d ... tionDebian. I have it loaded on a full HD install of Puppy 5.2.8.

Would you please tell us, which version you did download and install?

Complete path etc.

The lucid/lynx directory doesn't exist over there anymore.

Maybe you are able to upload your installed files?

I am interested in using a linux version of this program. Actually i do use it sometimes as PortableApp using wine. But would prefer using linux version.

DVD Styler

#8 Post by Hotdog »

RSH, My DVD Styler is v.1.8.2 which came from the now empty Debian Lucid repository. I did not know that it was gone. Unfortunately, I did not keep the .deb file. This version and others up to the current 2.1 are archived at http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdstyl ... dvdstyler/. However, they are sources, not installables.

Compiling and making a .pet may not be difficult, though. Here are the requirements for v1.8.2, copied from its tarball:
Compilation dependencies of DVDStyler:
mandatory:
cdrtools >= 2.01 (http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html)
dvdauthor >= 0.6.14 (http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net)
dvd+rw-tools >= 7.1 (http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/tools/)
ffmpeg >= 0.4.9 20080823, libavformat >= 52.21.0 (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu)
gettext >= 0.17 (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/)
libexif12 >= 0.6.16 (http://libexif.sourceforge.net)
wxGTK >= 2.8.7 (http://www.wxwidgets.org/downloads/)
wxSVG >= 1.0.5 (http://www.wxsvg.org/)
xine-ui >= 0.99.1 (http://xinehq.de/)
optional:
dvdisaster >= 0.7.1 (http://dvdisaster.net/en/index.php)

To build DVDStyler type
./configure && make
To install DVDStyler type
make install
We should compare this with the requirements of v2.1 and have a go at whichever one we have the resources for.

Repository for versions of DeVeDe

#9 Post by Hotdog »

If you are interested in trying older versions of DeVeDe, they are located at: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ ... story.html Most of them have a .deb package.

I have had to abandon Puppy as it just can't seem to handle much more than the simple things. Trying to install Devede devolved into dependency hell. Trying to get OpenVPN to function correctly is well beyond even the skills of an intermediate users. There are other distros that make installation and use of both of these apps a one click install instead of an incredibly frustrating experience. Puppy is great with the basics but for the novice or even intermediate user trying to use it for a primary OS and do something more than read email and browse the net it falls substantially short I'm sorry to say.

As I said before Devede is a bit difficult and I haven't had a chance to check into the older versions yet but if you are looking to use Openvpn check out Puppy Crypt (in my sig) which has Openvpn working just fine in it.
