Messing up page formatting for others

Here is how people make an unnecessary horizontal scroll bar. As if the vertical scrollbar isn't enough. When the make an horizontal scroll bar they can unwrap everyones text and make the whole page harder to read.

Bruce that works for Linux or Forum users on your level
but for noobs as I am like I would rather want to know this:

How to avoid making such a long bar.
I mean how do I know that I by accident made one
if it looks okay with my settings on the browser?

Or,
Post a really long URL
http://www.thelongestlistofthelongestst ... yways.html
Wonderful on small, old-fashioned, square-format monitors.
Grinds (false) teeth in frustration!

Keep it short! Brevity is best!

Or you could post an IMG link to a HUGE image on a server.

I make mine 900 pixels wide, but I believe it's a rule that it should be made smaller than that. [600 pixels?]

Either way it is Titled - the teaching curriculum is about the same.

Now when you see these ridiculous long horizontal scroll bars, you can know how it was done and who did it.

Here is one of many examples.

This thread serves what purpose? How to intentionally annoy people?

There's a 600px rule? I link mine to 800px wide and that looks ok on 1024x768 screen

@ Rupp Oh You! :)

It is not a rule dejan555 in the context of something posters should obey.

It is a software configuration. If the attachment is > 600 px it doesn't
display the image. It adds it as an attachment which the reader will have
to click on to see it.

< 601 px the image will display

Here is an example - I sized to image to 600 px so it would display

Yeah but I think Sylvander was refering to hotlinking from external site like I did in this post
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 657#537657
image is still visible but could extend post area if too wide

Title changed just for shariebeth.

Content and subject matter is about the same.

How to shot something = pull the trigger
How not to shot something = don't pull the trigger

Not that I would expect everyone to understand.

People do in fact mess up entire pages with their tricks. If I expose the tricks - big deal.

I want people to know how our pages are getting messed up and who does it.

Guess what? I don't do it.

And enough for me from the Title Police

I think you misunderstood my comment.
Showing examples is not showing us how to make sure we don't do it as well.

Everybody has seen examples of it and yes it's annoying. But HOW do we not do that? What did you do in your posts to make that happen?

Got it. The 600px rule applies to image attachments. I don't think there is a software rule for the [img] tags within a post.

So if the poster is going to quote source text that contains long lines, can the single message contain a horizonal scroll bar?
This is something I saw on puppylinux.com/blog in some of his replies in the comments.
could such a thing be implemented here?

If so, it would save a message thread with lots of posts from being corrupted by one post with long lines.

Wouldn't the line be wrapped as usual? What's different then?

Only thing I can tell so far is that long url links (because there are no spaces in them?) and oversized pictures will do that.

But what did Bruce B do and show as examples that did that as well? I didn't see any oversized pictures or links or urls.

Meh.

Come on Sharie Beth, this is a moderated forum. There is only so much I can do while Flash is deleting my examples.

People mess up everyone's posts on a page when they make the long horizontal scroll bars.

It doesn't just happen, you never did it.

Hopefully, some awareness is raised enough for us to see at a minimum who does it. When you discover the people doing it, do not be surprised by the 'stature' of some of them.

"I don't think there is a software rule for the Image"
Aha, now that's useful to know...
It means I'm not breaking any convention or whatever.

On a lighter note....
Here's a photo of one of my daughters, who belly-dances at various events as a hobby.
Stunner or what? :D
Good genes!
Should I increase the size?
Better not, don't want to give the photo in too much quality and detail.

I obviously have not had enough coffee yet for this conversation.
