Spent two hours downloading Ubuntu 11.04, burned the iso , and it would not boot! Great......................

I wouldn't know, because I've never done anything so bold.

I hope you didn't do this on your own computer. Certainly you have enemies
or in-laws with computers you can use for test environments.

Ah but Save if you have an USB big enough to have the Ubuntu iso on it then maybe the pet rcrsn51 made can boot it. I used it to boot Peppermint and them are grub2 too and the ubuntu you tried to boot most likely only boot that way unless you install grub2 on the HDD

I am editing from within WattOS now which is a Ubuntu based OS that most likely also only boot using grub2 on NTFS HDD. I boot it like I did with Lubuntu I discribe on the grub2 thread see link.

Should I test to boot the one you failed to boot. Okay maybe but that has to wait until late tomorrow. I am too sleepy now to do all the dowloading and you have to give me exact link to download so I get same version you have.

Ubuntu 11.04.iso using same code as described at link booted just fine thanks to tip from Eric at Peppermint forum. Time here now is 02.54 AM local time so I should go back to bed and dream of booting iso directly and not having to place all those casper and .disk and preseed and so on on the root mnt home

DaveS if you want to test it try to mimic what I described and it should work.

Must not be bad enough for puppy to mooch binaries from it.

Don't try again. I spent way to much time trying to figure out the gui. It truly stinks and I'm fairly tolerant. They have spent so much time trying to make it idiot proof and promoting their brand you can't do anything. It truly is the worst set up I have ever seen. Hold on to your hats--- Windows any version is better.

Been using Windows since 3, Apple since II, Linux since 2007.

Puppy is my every day OS. I need a main stream distro for work, there are just some packages Puppy just doesn't like and sometimes I just don't have time to figure out the dependencies. Downloading Debian now..

I got it to boot in the end using Linux Mint as a slave to build a USB bootable installation. It boots on two of my PCs, but not on the third. One needed the non-free Broadcom wifi driver which downloaded ok but would not function.
The other had a compatible wifi card so it ended up being one out of three. I am sure they will get it fixed.
With regard to the GUI, Unity.... interesting. I like the way it maximises screen availability. Customisation is going to be an issue, but mainly because we have to re-think a twenty year old paradigm.
It looks like it is MADE for tablets. My guess the mobile phone/tablet generation will love it.
For serious work, the jury is out.....
