You should try the bugfix release puppy 5.01. Run it on CD and see if it works on your hardware, you may be surprised, the biggest problems have been with intel graphics. Just click on Lucid in my signature.

Wary 020 gives the best xorg-vesa selection of any Puppy I've ever
tried on my Inspiron 700m, Intel 855gme graphics.

The biggest worry I have with the lupu-luci-wary-quirky-puppy5 circus,
is cpu temperatures running from 10 to 20 degree c higher than
previous Puppies when running any video.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

You may have to use an older version, however, you should be able to run most on 4.3. Do a puppy google search for the program you want. You may want to look at Lighthouse which is based on 4.3.1, it may already have the programs that you are searching for.
