Jpilot-1.6.0 - Palm Pilot sync gui

#1 Post by plinej »

Jpilot homepage:
http://www.jpilot.org/index.html

Pilot link homepage:
http://www.pilot-link.org/

bluez libs homepage:
http://www.bluez.org/

These were all compiled in Puppy 4 and may not work in other Puppies.

I compiled pilot-link with bluez support so bluez_libs & pilot_link are required for this version of J-pilot.

Well done. But for bluetooth connections to J-Pilot the bluetooth-utils package is also required, specifically the sdptool and rfcomm utilities, and these utilities depend on the D-Bus library. I provided the necessary libraries here -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=25009
but these were compiled in Puppy3, I'm not sure if they will work in Puppy4.x. In the near future I will update these packages for Puppy4.

For instructions on bluetooth connection to J-Pilot see here -

Wow!

I was trying to sync my Zire 72 under Win XP today using the native Palm software and took about three hours to get it working again, because (apparently) Windows XP ?misplaced a USB driver for the Zire.

I was (luckily) able to get it working, but it motivated me to look for a way to sync under linux.

In less than an hour, I found threads here for jpilot. The 0.99 version which I tried first, failed because shared libraries (first libxcb-xlib.so.0 and libbluetooth.so.2 weren't found. (Perhaps this doesn't work with Dingo?).

Then, I saw this thread dealing with the new version of jpilot and installed all the files and voila, it just launched and synced! Parenthetically, seemed MUCH faster than under Windows.

Thanks very much.

Forgot one ?glitch.

When I launch from command line, it says "slow_sync_application: Unable to open file: Keys-Gtkr".

Is this significant in some way?

The program seems to work fine.

Thanks to All!

Jpilot-1.60 is working great on a Presario x1000 and syncs with a Handspring Visor Pro.

I thought there was something wrong with the sync....., but it is just fast.
