IceWM Themes Exchange

Posted: Thu 09 Aug 2007, 23:06

Thought I'd make this thread so we could share new IceWM themes for Puppy. Although EZpup contains a nice selection, they aren't necessarily everyone's idea of whats "great" in a theme.

To kick off the list of contributions, here is a WhoDo original, Golden Mood, that hasn't been offered anywhere else. I hope some of you enjoy it.

Hey that looks great I really like the dog on the start bar thanks WhoDo
Me I like the "address bar" because it's a instant command line :)

And here comes that age-old question WhoDo: "Wherever did you find that beautiful wallpaper that goes so well with it?" Any chance that you could likewise include a download of that here as well? That really helps to make the theme have its over-all "balance", you know what I mean?

Another thing WhoDo if I may? I haven't been to FreshMeat's theme section for IceWM themes in quite some time seeing where I have literally hundreds now (do I like eye-candy? LOL!), yet the last time I went many of the themes were getting to be rather "outdated" to put it mildly. Have you ever considered submitting yours there? Even if they're variants of already-made themes I wouldn't see any problem in submittal myself. Take a look at the number of variants that are there now.

Yet some like this and your "Black Vista IV" are so gorgeous it seems such a shame to just keep them within our Community and not share them with all those who likewise love the window manager, eh?

I hope it's something you'll strongly consider if you haven't already done so anyway.

EDIT #1: Oupsie!! Just where on earth are my manners these days anyway? In my feet? -sigh- I never did give a mighty BIG THANK YOU in this post to WhoDO for making such a spectacular theme! Shame on me! I've enjoyed ALL your themes so very much WhoDO. Please, by all means---DON'T STOP!

@Willhunt: Nice screenie!

Very nice - it has installed to /tmp - but where do the theme files go?

Hello Eyes-Only,
The Elephant wallpaper along with many more can be found at www.kde.org
I included that wallpaper in "Backgrounds" for TEENpup 1.0.0

Thanks John :) Searching there now... So many beautiful wallpapers... so little desktop space! LOL!

@Lobster: HUH? When you clicked the tarball of that didn't archiver open up? And when you extracted it went to a directory named "Golden_Mood", right? Okie---open up a second ROX-filer window and go in there to "/root/.icewm/themes" and in the first ROX window in /tmp take your "Golden_Mood" file and drag it over to that second ROX window. Voila---it's installed and ready to go. :) I hope this is what you meant anyway and that this helped?

Yep. It's simply called sunset, is GPL and an original work of the author.

Cheers

That is exactly what I meant.
Many thanks.
The gold is very rich I found the red on black difficult to read. That can be changed though . . . Incidentally - Eyes-Only. I sent you my friends the 'Astral Dolphins' yesterday. They normally turn up in refractions of light (rainbows), dreams and just feelings of well being, which I hope reached you :)

I mixed them with some Mozart, "Piano Sonata No. 11" and they did turn up feelings of well being.

It was like they swam in the wave.

Have you tried the IceWM manual for that info? It mentions that IceWM supports Xsession protocol but I don't know any more about it than that.

Hope that helps.

Would you need xsm for that to work I notice it is not in my puppy?
If you have it installed then I think you would just need to call it from
the shutdown file icewm calles at logoff it's /root/.icewm/shutdown
I really do need to learn a great deal more about the xsession stuf
it really looks intresting :D

@WhoDo: Thanks so very much mate as that'll look perfect in completing that desktop look! Gee... it'll look awesome on any desktop for that matter! I can't wait to show the grandkiddos as I know they'll love it as much as I do! :) Thanks so much again!

@Lobster: So glad I was able to help my friend! :) And those dolphins are beautiful! The well-wishes that went with that placed a smile upon this face of mine and a glow in my heart. Thank you sooo very much as well!

It's wonderful having friends who understand life's "little situations". :) Thank you all!

Xtreme-Animated Theme

Here is another theme you won't find anywhere else ... not even in willhunt's comprehensive icepak.pet compilation. It has been given the WhoDo treatment, including animated buttons on the titlebar and a puppy icon in the start button.

Enjoy!

Another theme modified for Puppy enthusiasts. It builds on LICE 1.2 by skoal and adds a cleaner, more sharply defined taskbar, and the ubiquitous puppy icon in the start button.

Enjoy!

Thanks WhoDo! WOW! As always with your IceWM themes---these are fantabulous! I have nothing like them in the 100-some-odd collection that I have either (Debian-Sid sends a lot of themes along with its IceWM pack ;) ).

What's really hard though? Is that when someone has fallen in love with one particular theme, and in my case it's "Vista-Black IV", it's very difficult to leave another one on for any length of time. Even my old favourites from Pizza, and my favourites IceQua and Brushed-Metal don't stay but a few moments... I even use the "V-B IV" on my Debian-Sid and PCLOS when in IceWM. ;)

Oh yeah: And the grandkiddos loved the wallpaper and send their thanks WhoDo!! Especially Isaac: I wished you could've seen his reaction! LOL!

I'd like to add my thanks to WhoDo. Getting all the icewm menus and scripts right for Puppy must have taken a terrific amount of work. I love the icewm themes, and have become addicted to them. I should stop, but then WhoDo gives us the Xtreme-animated, and I think, yes, just one more. I can always quit tomorrow. Really, I can quit any time I want to.

By the way, in addition to the freshmeat themes (374 or something) one can find icewm themes at

http://www.kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=18

Usually these are just the title bar, though still interesting. To get them to run you may need to open up default.theme and type in Look=pixmap, TitleButtonsLeft="s", TitleButtonsRight="xmi". Then these usually load properly. They were designed to be run from Kde. I'm using QuanX right now.

Previously, I have been frustrated by the appearance of Puppy. Reviewers have commented on it negatively. Appearance, and the first impression a reviewer gets is very important. Perhaps WhoDo's additions should become a permanent part of Puppy.
