Announcing Puppy 2.16 NOP
Puppy 2.16 NOP is Nearly Office Pup - just add the squash file for Open Office. So What is different about NOP ?
Well Abiword and Gnumeric have been removed so that there is no application function duplication when the Oo sfs is added. Application duplication in the menus has also been reduced - so there are no longer several calculators, music players etc to confuse the user. Seamonkey and friends have also been purged and replaced by Opera (browser / mail / chat). The ICEWM system has been added, with a nice blue xp look as default.
However the main changes for office use are the addition of Xsane and the inclusion of CUPS as the default print system. The printer setup wizard now runs CUPS setup and the printer status menu option opens up the CUPS printer tools in a web browser.
I have also activated the ROX filer background patterns and updated the gtk themes to include some nice patterns.
Puppy is absolutely amazing in that it is so easy to customize. I run it from a USB stick on which I have also added Scilab, Blender and my own VTK apps along with Open Office and Kino. I can perform every function as a professional aerospace engineer from this setup!

NOP
Thanks for hosting the iso MU.
Raffy, thanks for the tip about mooload.com. Looks useful, will look into it.
I'm not sure I have time to write an article, though might be fun.
I dont have to carry a laptop anymore - just my pendrive. From there I can run simulations using Scilab, visualize results in 3D using VTK, create 3D models in Blender and write reports / give presentations using OO.
Puppy is definately the OS of choice for engineers - versatile and configurable.

Download Files
Tried to download it several times but to no avail.
Interested in techniques in removing programs such as AbiWord and Gnumeric that comes with the distribution. Please post how you accomplish the said task.
All the best.

there will be another mirror at pkagfiles.org soon.
It seems servage changed the bandwidth-limitation.
I have reached a maximum of 3620 Gigabyte some days ago, and it seems, now the account is deactivated for the rest of the month.
That is new, as until now they just deactivated for the rest of the day.
That further access was still counted, so I had days with 250 GB download, though it is deactivated after 100 GB (in theory).
Their bandwidth limitation system still seems to be horribly buggy
I'll try to clarify that this week, but I'm very busy at moment, so expect no quick solution.

The file I accessed from MU fails md5sum... when I can get a good copy I'll mirror when possible here.

it seems the iso got corrupted during upload.
Gray would have to re-upload it.
I cannot run a md5sum check on the mirror while it is down, I would need a way to run PHP/Shellscripts for that.
But someone else who wanted to help with a mirror, also reported a bad md5sum. So I think the upload is broken.
