/usr/sbin/dotpup is the script initiated via Menu>Setup>Universal Installer.
Ignoring that it can't be used with UEFI computers, it works as it has for many years. It's only problem is Humans who don't speak 'Puppy' and consequently read 'full' to mean 'everything' and 'frugal' to mean 'cut-down'.
The result is that every week a new bunch of mislead newbies have to be walked through straightening out their systems.
I don't think there's anything complicated about changing 'frugal' to read 'standard'* and 'full' to read 'legacy'. But programming isn't my 'strong suit' or I'd do it myself. [Standard*: If you can think of a better term, go for it.].
There isn't anything we can do about the 5,000 or so old ISOs 'in the wild'. But most newbies opt for a recent Puppy. There's not a great deal of work involved in preparing ISOs revised to have corrected dotpups and substituting them in the current deployment channels,
Can anyone think of a good reason why time and again we continue to publish ISOs containing misleading information?
Someone should edit /usr/bin/dotpup
As a matter of principle, I don't like that a script which is the same in all Puppys, suddenly change the code, but keep the name. I would prefer an extra popup dialog window, or some kind of explanations to the expressions. After all, they are used all over, also in thousands of posts in the forum, and should remain consistent. Can anyone think of a good reason why time and again we continue to publish ISOs containing misleading information?
There is also a relative link named dotpup1, used by the Puppy Installer in the Setup menu, which open only the installer part of the dotpup window, excluding the Install Applications part.
True freedom is a live Puppy on a multisession CD/DVD.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
