"Is Dogradio significantly better than Yradio?" I don't know what 'better' means. Dogradio certainly has a nicer GUI. Dogradio appears to be a well-thought-out and complete application. Whether it can do anything which Yradio can't; or is easier to flesh-out, no idea.

Although Conky is required, the version included in pwidgets, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 211#249211 sufficed under several Puppies from Slacko 5.7 thru Bionicpup64. Not tested under Quicky7-light.

Early on in my Puppy adventures I tried using Abiword several times for professional documents. Insert image-> crash, 3 pages -> crash. My typing isn't fast enough to write off 3 pages of work. I might have gotten around the problems but there are too many good word processors out there.

Nice, nothing on security concerns. Just an old piece of ____. That is understandable.

I downloaded and installed the 701D RC version of this OS on my EEEPC 901A. I am posting from it now. It is working quite well. I did have a bit of trouble installing my printer but finally worked it out.

I installed Vivaldi from the PortaBrowser app. I also added inxi and GTK-Youtube-Viewer 3.74-2.

Notice when running wget the following shows in terminal
/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 - no version available
/usr/lib/libssl.so.1.0.0.0 - no version available

They do exist in /usr/lib

Hi Darry, should have answered this sooner, my oversight.

As you can see from /root/.packages/added-packages, Q7-light is a mix (jumble) of packages from various sources. Most of these were added to allow it to run the newest browsers and update to the latest security protocols. I searched to find packages that would work with the Q7 binaries and adapt to newest demands. Compromises had to be made, so yes there are a few such error messages but, as with wget, if it works and I couldn't come up with a better solution I left it as is.

I think you and Darry have explained well how to install Dogradio, so I will leave it up to users to install their own. I'm going with Yradio simply because it is very small and requires only xdotool (doesn't really seem to need that) which is very small and I'm really impressed with how well it works.

I just thought I'd mention. I've been using conky_1.7.2, both 32bit and 64bit, from this Mepis 8.5 repo with all my Puppies. It uses the same coding as conky-1.9 but has built-in transparency even with .svg backgrounds and only needs liblua to run.

Nice to see you found my YAD-powered "Start Center" thingy useful!

(It was the only thing that niggled me about FreeOffice. LibreOffice has always had the Quick Launch thing for directly accessing which of the applications you wanted; SoftMaker have always written theirs to have a whole bunch of MenuEntries for launching (to be fair, LibreOffice has these too, but the QuickLauncher has always been an option). FreeOffice never had that option, so since I'd only recently start experimenting with YAD at that time, I thought I'd build my own. So I did....)

Glad the basic code came in handy.....it's astonishing just how much Puppy code gets re-used, in various different incarnations!

I may take a look at April64; see if I can persuade it to run on this new UEFI hardware. Racy/Wary were always fun to play around with; sadly, in original format they're a 'no-go' on this machine, since they're actively looking for MBR BIOS-related stuff at boot.....and that simply doesn't exist here!

Not sure what will happen. This is not a WoofCE build, just a major reshaping of BarryK's original. I copied in the UEFI stuff in the ISO from a Tahrpup build.

Only if you want to print. Many people don't and then some like me and my wifi network printer only need the basic Cups package, the embedded linux in the printer does everything else. Watchdog got his A32 up and printing but for A64 I would definitely stick with cups64-1.75. Also libcups.so.2 from the cups-175 package is included and needed by all the chromium based browsers. You wouldn't want to overwrite it with something older.

Nah, you're OK..! Don't sweat it. I was just browsing a bit earlier, got reading, then thought to myself, "I dunno; that kinda looks familiar. Mm.....yup, I recognise that.."

Okay. Initial report...

On first boot, totally as expected, it reported the nouveau driver was in use (I'm using a 'cooking', Asus GeForce GT710; first time I've been able to run a discrete GPU, 'cos the single PCI-ex16 slot in the old Compaq was damaged), but.....only vesa resolutions available. Not surprised. Also; no audio. Again; not surprised. Had the same issue with both your Tahr64-lite and Phil's 'official' Tahr64 606; the audio card is nearly 4 years newer than that 3-series kernel, so how's the kernel expected to know about it?

And the screen brightness/tint control didn't work. Sheesh.

So; I've pulled the same stunt I employed with the other two. Did a swap with Xenialpup64's k4.9.58 kernel. Fixed the lot; screen resolution is now correct (which gives me a shot at installing the official Nvidia driver). Audio works. First time I've tried Fred's yRadio, though I think I prefer DogRadio, even so. I'll probably install Oscar's Deadbeef-0.72, as well, 'cos this lets me play my RadioTunes 'stream' via the .pls function.

The screen brightness/tint control is behaving itself, so I may see if Fred's 'redshift-lite' portable will work.....which I prefer, 'cos it adjusts automatically via its geo-location stuff, and it's still very lightweight. Following 15 years of working at the family firm's plant, processing waste 'fly-ash' from our indigenous coal-fired power stations, it's left me with permanently sensitive eyes, so the various 'red-tint' apps have proved a real boon in recent years....

radky's JWM DeskManager will find its way on here, too; it's just so much easier than all that older way of having to bring everything up separately. And before you say it, yah; I know. I'm not really keeping to the spirit of things, but then this new machine is just so much more capable than the old one, especially now I've got 8 GB of DDR4 plugged in. I can't resist 'tarting' things up a little..!

And my Vivaldi64-portable is running without issues, as well. Posting from it now. I'll see how many of the other 64-bit portables I threw together will behave themselves on here; I'll report back on these.

I'll see how I get on with the CUPS install. And I'll see how many of my library of 64-bit AppImages will run, too.

You mean its like Apple/Google, it knows where we are at all times? Not sophisticated at all, but if you go to Setup->RedshiftSettings you can enter your longitude and latitude and redshfit will go on automatically in the dark hours. The ScreenBrightness control (yours BTW) will override and killall redshift (my mod), which means you'll need to restart it manually if needed, /root/Startup/redshift.sh. I just realized I should have put it in /usr/local/bin and symlinked to /root/Startup so it could be started from terminal, oh well.

Thanks for your kind review and thanks also to GreenGeek, Darry, TiredPup. et al. I build these things for my own satisfaction, thrill of the chase so to speak, but a good review definitely puts a big smile on my face.

I didn't know you could do that with pmount. I'll have to investigate that.

Here's how I mount sda3 with script /root/Startup/mnt_sda3 on boot:

You can right click in /root/Startup and choose New->Script. Name it and then right click on it and OpenAsText and type in the code for whichever drive you wish to mount.

Here's how I've auto-mounted 3 partitions in Quirky, Greg. This was originally from my Precise 571 install, in /etc/init.d. It's adapted slightly from rcrsn51's auto-mount script for Samba-TNG:-

Right, kiddiwinks. Now; it appears that Tahr64 606's pMount script will run OK in Quirky64 (and the 32-bit versions will probably swap over just the same, all things being equal), though I won't be testing the latter. Should please some of you.

A .pet would simply overwrite and 'lose' the original, so I'm attaching it to this post. Just remove the fake .gz from it, go to /usr/sbin, and swap 'em over. Keep your original somewhere safe; you may, perhaps, need to 'revert'. It's early days yet, and I need several more re-boots to satisfy myself it's behaving as it should...

Let's have some feedback, guys. If it behaves itself, jrb can stick it in the next 'update' (if any others are forthcoming!)
