I have installed bionicpup 64 on usb flash stick.
Works fine with my laptop, but when I try to use it with my desktop it I end up at console without X running.
I suspect it is to do with GPU?
It is: GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER StormX 4GB Graphics Card
My attempts to play with xorgwizard didn't make any difference.
Any suggestions please?

Huh. You and me both, mate.

I've recently purchased a GeForce GT710 (the one with the 'passive' heatsink; no fan), and am also having issues with Bionicpup64. If I have the card installed (just using the kernel's 'nouveau' driver), everything runs fine, except for the fact that I always end up with a weird external IP address, and have no internet.....until I reset the router, and re-connect, and then DNS/DHCP work correctly.

Your issue obviously sounds to be related to the nouveau driver, too.....though your card is a bit more of a 'beast' than mine!

You might have to try using the NVidia driver, I suspect, though whether that would fix the issue is anybody's guess. For now, that's about the only thing I can think of to suggest.

In my case, if I remove the GPU and allow the system to use the Pentium G5400's 'on-die' GPU (using the Intel kernel driver), everything's tickety-boo, and functions as it should do.....

You could, perhaps, also consider a kernel-swap. I know rockedge has compiled a number of alternative kernels, some of which, by all accounts, work very well. Maybe it's the version of the nouveau driver in Bionic64's default kernel that's at the root of the issue? Just a thought.....

All:- Anybody else having 'nouveau' issues with Bionic64.....or is it just bambuko and me?

I'm not entirely certain that's going to be an option with this particular 'use-case', Nic. I distinctly remember from a post of his some while back that bambuko runs a highly-customized set-up with pNp 'hot-swappable' hard drives.

(*shrug*)

Unless, of course, this is a more conventional machine.....

Still works perfectly well afaic (win10, win7 and various shades of puppy with "mechanical" multiboot)

I guess the latter should be better...

You can try the nvidia-440... driver pet from QuickSetup
or from http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... -bionic64/

I can't try nvidia-440 driver because I cannot get Puppy started on the PC that is the problem (i.e. X doesn't start, so I don't get beyond boot menus)
and trying to do it on my laptop ends up in failure

What boot loader are you using? Try to boot with pfix=nox parameter. The boot sequence willl stop after the menus and you then type xorgwizard for manual setup and when that is done proceed with the xwin command to start Xorg.

If you Desktop have its own monitor port like a VGA or so


Then try to connect your monitor to it. This will allow you to work with your Puppy and install the new driver. Good luck my friend.

unfortunately your suggestion didn't work - screen remained black despite being connected directly to motherboard rather than GPU

tried didn't work

but....
went back again to xorgwizard to make sure I didn't miss anything and to my surprise option 4) in choose driver: allowed me to get xwin going

updated Bionicpup updates and downloaded nvidia 440 driver pet

saved things on exit and tried booting again and...

it all behaved as if I didn't save things on exit (i.e. had to start setting country, language, keyboard etc again)
puzzled, but at least it's some progress

so then I tried saving things on exit without nvidia 440 driver loaded and guess what - when rebooted country, language and keyboard has been saved OK

so the problem seems to be my inability to install sucessfully invidia 440 driver

later edit:
started again (it's easy after all ) and this time when doing Bionicpup update I have noticed that (amongst other details) it says:

added nvidia 440 driver ... linuxcbon

so it would appear that there is no need to install this driver separately?
just need to "convince" puppy to use correct driver

and... how do I do it good people, please

nvidia 440 driver needs to be installed from quickpet .

I seems to understood you got Xorg working. That is good, first step. I do not have nvidia. So I am just giving you my best suggestion.

Now you need to trobleshout to find out your system. Do: The first will tell you your Graphic Adapters details. In particular your drives been used.
The second the firmware your Puppy is been loaded. I thing you need to search for Ubuntus package Use your PPM and install that one if that is the case. Then reboot and do again See if that helps. Do not forget that once your Nvidia Adapter is working you need to plug your monitor to it. Hopes it helps.

downloaded nvidia 440, no problem, but...

nvidia-440.36_K4.19.23_x86_64.pet failed to install

later edit:
it was only when I tried to download it from PPM that I got the warning about memory size... (quickpet gave no reason for failure)
resized, downloaded and installed correct (nvidia 440) driver
rebooted and exited to prompt, run xorgwizard and set driver to nvidia 440

at the moment puppy seems to be using integrated CPU controller, rather than GPU
as for nouveau firmware, that's precisely what I do not want (plenty of nvidia driver threads about this on the forum)
at the moment monitor is connected to GPU.

Try from a fresh bionicpup , without any savefile, and from a usb stick.
Update bionic and install nvidia drivers.
Tell us what happens.
