Seems like an old installer bug. Check /tmp folder to see if you have pup_event_sizefreem
If not, copy attached file into /tmp & rename to pup_event_sizefreem & then try HP install again.

Also always, always, always tell us the exact Puppy version.
xenial pup
Is it Xenialpup 7.5?
Xenialpup64 7.5?
Xenialpup 7.3?
Xenialpup 7.3.2?
Xenialpup 7.0?
See what I am saying!

Welcome to Puppy Land.
I know you may think a full install is the best install to do.
However, Puppy is really designed to operate best as a frugal install.
Some features only work as a frugal install.
The name frugal is just a name. It is still the complete Puppy OS installed.
Frugal is about how little space it uses and how little it takes over partition on the drive.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

In Puppy Linux you are root.
You have permission to do anything at any time.

Do this in the Rox File Manager.
Open Rox twice so you can work from one open window to the other open window.
Move stuff by dragging from one window and dropping to the other window.
You can independently make each Rox window navigate to different locations.

First download the file.
The browser you use controls where it downloads.
Check in the browsers preferences>General to see what it defaults to or change the setting to ask you where to download.
In one Rox window navigate to the file you downloaded.
Right click on it.
From right click menu select rename.
Change the name.

In the other Rox window navigate to /tmp
Now in the /tmp directory.
From the other Rox window.
Drag and drop the file into /tmp
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

rcrsn51 is the Puppy printer master.
Give him what he asks and he will be able to get it working.

If Xenialpup is installed as a frugal install.
It will use a save file/folder as the place to put any settings, changes, stuff you add, etc........

Did you make a save?
If it is a save file. Did you make it big enough?
Booted using the save before trying to install hplip?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

So much misinformation ....

Since when has enabling an HP printer in Puppy EVER involved installing full HPLIP?

In any case, the HP P1005 printer has always been handled in Puppy with a different driver. This is well-documented in How to Install your Printer in Puppy.
