Nvidia driver?

#882 Post by gjuhasz »

Hi guys,

is there anybody offering a second-hand NVIDIA driver here?
To tell the truth, I decided to test Iguleder's newborn Puppy Sid in a dark corner of my room.
I have been desperately searching for a 2.6.32.25 -compatible driver for months.
So, HEEEEELP!!! I promise my only-and-lovely NVIDIA GeForce 6200 card in exchange for a working driver...

Sid "vicious" 001, license to announce. Fully functional. Somewhat reduced in what is inside but really speedy. Base apps are fine. Iceweasel works fine. Snow and rainy outside, so it is weather of this browser.

I like the feel and readiness of this distro. It just works as every puppy should.

That is my first experience. Ready to army yourself with this distro.

I feel proud just by using this. Developer should feel 10 x prouder of offering this :)

hmmmm, the first thing I did was mounting my sdb1, which is a ntfs partition.
No success, there is a missing library libntfs-3g.
Disappointing as sdb1 contains all my data.

In the debian library I found a packagen libntfs-3g31xxxx, but it didn't install.
Also I am not sure this is the good one and I don't want to loose my data.

What can be done?

Yeah, got that also. Petget does not install *.debs. From /usr/lib is missing these files: libntfs-3g.so.75 (symlink) and libntfs-3g.so.75.0.0

Pets installs ok, so i downloaded old undeb to use it from console.

After installing those files, ntfs partitions opens read-write. I got them from squuze repo: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/i386 ... 5/download

But there is that problem with petget.

And my wifi connection does not cut off infrequently. But my laptop heats so much that I think I need to change puppy. Sensors show now 59 c. I chose powersave before. Getting too warm. 60 c now. Time to quit testing.

PS. Changed to my own luci512pre. 44 c now and feels also cooler.

 Iguleder, can it be that this kernel is also missing that thermal thing? I just wanted to download, but not sure now... :?

Regarding ntfs-3g, I replaced the PET with the Debian packages in this one, thank you for the feedback, I'll roll back to the PET.

And dejan555, regarding the "thermal thing", the kernel has all ACPI stuff, thermal zones, fan, battery, whatever. Just tell me what modules you need and I'll double-check for you.

gjuhasz: nope ... and I have no idea how to make them. Need a real nvidia expert like 01micko.

EDIT: I don't see high temperatures here. I guess I'll compile a new kernel and do another build from Debian Squeeze, this Sid experiment is too fun, I want to do it when we finally have a stable release, unless you find it way better

Hi Iguleder:

This psid is looking very good

I grabbed dpkg-deb from other pup and placed in /usr/bin
This was needed by some of the scripts for package mgmt.

These two from sqeeze fixed ffmpeg.
installed libraw1394-11_2.0.5-2_i386.deb
installed libavutil49_0.5.2-6_i386.deb

`LIBAVUTIL_49' not found (required by /usr/lib/i686/cmov/libpostproc.so.51)

seems a little weird because mplayer worked without any additional packages and when ffmpeg is run, it shows it is using libavutil50. But it wouldn't start without libavutil49 present. :?

Runs very snappy in 256meg/466mhz 8)

There's a bug in Woof, it has both ffmpeg 0.5.2 from the Debian repo and 0.6 from Debian Multimedia. I tried to get rid of 0.5.2 ... I guess it's still problematic.

I'll try to take a look at Woof's scripts to see where it fails. And thanks for the input, I'll add dpkg-deb back. I did some trimming as you see 8)

Thank you pemasu.
Strange that a debian pup can't install a.deb.
Didn't have this problem with squeeze and lucid. Clicking on the deb installed it.
ntfs running now.

psid 001 temperature

#893 Post by Béèm »

No problem with temperature here. Running at 54°C and when playing youtube 70°C.
Lower then in some quirky's where it went up to 88-90°C
So looking good this aspect.

nvidia drivers?

Iguleder.. do you have the kernel source sfs? If you don't, can you make one? I'll attempt to make some drivers if you want. (for zen and dpup)

Cheers

xkbcomp versions

#895 Post by upnorth »

..grabbed xkbcomp from wary098.sfs to see how it would behave. It fixes the numlockx problem, as does the one from lupq, but it also cleared up the error messages in xerrs.log. Keyboard is working fine now, but beyond that I don't know anything about xkbcomp. :)

ntfs problem and petget problem now fixed. Cpu freq now conservative and all 4 cores now in minimum output. Thermal now 52-53 c, about accectable.

If i had kernel source, i could compile acpi_call and switch dual graphics ati off and see if it is one reason for overheating. I have it switched off in my main puppies. Also with newer kernel i could use switcheroo command if enabled in kernel: "echo OFF >/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch"

Still buzzled about this overheating problem. If it is overheating problem at all, i am maybe just used to cooler laptop. So dont make big issue of my comments. Just my usual brainstorming :)

I did a fresh frugal install of Psid 001 and before I could post about the problems they've already been solved. Seems to be working fine now.
