posting from a remix mini

Hi!
I received my Remix mini 2 days ago. The Cpu is a Quad Core 1.34 GHz sun50iw1p1,
type arm64-v8a, Not x86/Intel compatible. It's running Android 5.1 and seems very stable so far, but lots of small bugs / missing features. Some I can work around but not all, wich I hope an update will fix. I am happy with it nevertheless, because it seems to handle the main task intended. Running as a server.

But, where are you???
Intel has an ARM fab license; not sure where 'sun' comes in? Is there a Sun fab.? Haven't kept up with the manufacturing recently, esp. as Chinese industries have come on apace.

Hi!
I just copied the the string from an app that show hardware info. It should be an Allwinner manufactored cpu, a chinese company.
I updated my profile, with location.

Mine finally arrived. A bit basic, fussy about HW, slow and uncertain start-up (needs an l.e.d.). Must check out their fora.
Anyone managed to open it up yet? Is the on/off by microswitch or proximity?
Later:
needs an l.e.d.
the little green light only showed up after dark! Confirm that, apart from the declared non-operation on an HDMI-DVI lead, it doesn't work on my D-A HMDI-VGA converter, either.
Remixers should now have their $10 coupon offer. However, miniscule PCs are blossoming. All GB 11yr olds are about to receive their free BBC Microbits and RPi has launched their 'zero' @ £4/$5 - a cut down version of the v.2, (free to their magazine subscribers) - a great deal as most hobbists should have plenty of small USB hubs kicking around by now.
Even later: but it does work on my little cheapo HDMI-VGA I use for my RPi - only six quid from

Probably the capacitance of hand causes a current spike that acts as trigger.

Finally got my Mini hooked up.Posting from it now.Other than the a long system upgrade on initial boot and an incorrect screen resolution (I can live with 1920x1080 for now) everything appears to be functioning pretty well.
Lots to explore though......

Try the video player BSP v1.5.136 [4.0+].apk
that I posted above. I'd like to see if it works.

Remix, RPi & co. are missing a trick. It shouldn't be necessary to need a s-o-a HDMI monitor/TV to run such a basic building block. Most old monitors and TVs built this century have a VGA input - that is more than sufficient for text and internet; it is specifically NOT their purpose for games playing and video editing. It might mean designing a micro-hi D15, but it wouldn't cost any more than the present socket. That way, these miniature PCs could quadruple their marketability.

If remix has vnc/rdp client app installed that's used to remote control a puppy PC desktop - HOW CAN I CHANGE THE PUPPY TRAY MINI DESKTOPS TO BE LEFT CLICK/DRAG'able ??
Under Wary I could grab the title bar of a window and drag it from one desktop to another
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4MbXu ... sp=sharing. Under Precise when dragging a window it hits the screen edge and stops (locked to that desktop), so I have to use the tray mini desktops to right mouse click-drag/move windows from one desktop to another (or use the title bar far left icon to 'Send To'). It would be nice however if a long left click/drag could be set for the mini-desktops in the tray. Mainly because under some conditions the title bar of windows can be above the top of screen and being able to drag the window back down again in the tray mini desktop window is handy (rather than having to ALT-left mouse click/drag the window back down).
I specifically have my tray set to 'Taller' as I find the mini desktops in the tray to be handy/useful as I have different icons on different desktops.

Until I only recently saw Barry's blog Remix article, which led me to this thread, I was unaware of the Remix box and was contemplating ordering one as a xmas stocking filler for myself
With it in mind for a setup of having that as the primary armchair control. My current setup is the broadband router/firewall/modem (Virgin Media Superhub) has one of its lan ports to a puppy PC that's open (vnc from anywhere globally) and another of its lan ports connected to the original Netgear router that we used before the Superhub was installed (that also has a firewall). All other household devices connect via that (secure behind a second firewall).
The open puppy is VGA connected to a 1080 TV's VGA (42" TV), with a wireless keyboard/mouse rollerball to control that. Dropping a Remix box in as the primary (armchair/wireless keyboard mouse controlling that) with the puppy PC vnc'd into from that opens up both android and puppy apps control from the armchair (LibreCad/Office ....etc).
The open puppy runs pfix=ram pupmode 5, CD booted at present, no HDD's. It can also be PXE booted (so be just a read only system with no HDD's/CD's/keyboard/mouse/monitor), just a motherboard, network card and ethernet link into the router. i.e. insecure in being open, but secure in being read only and isolated from the rest of the lan. At present that puppy PC is a heavy beast (old thrown away), but I have it in mind to replace that with another small x86 based micro-PC at some point (low power, always on server), mainly from remote house control (web cams, turn lights on/off remotely etc).

Apparently Softmaker has a free word processor for Android tablets.
I'd love to check it out on the Remix.

Jide promises a new device this year. I bet it uses an intel processor
since Intel subsidizes its sales to Chinese firms.
