JWM crashes

I am running both BionicPub64 and 32 and find that JWM crashes to a command screen when moving a window through Alt+F2 > Move or when selecting Move from the Window's drop-down menu.
I suspect this may be a known issue with JWM.
Is it ??
System log:

Code: Select all

Cant't confirm this for bionic64.
Though, I'm running my own WoofCE built using a real time kernel.

Hello peebee,

I just made a flash drive of Upupbb and I'm trying Upupbb out for the first time.

Is there a an adblocker for the 'light' browser.

'Light' browser is a scaled down version of Firefox?

Thank you for your timely response,

Sky

Light is a lightweight "starter for 10" browser based on [old] Mozilla code - if you need something more heavyweight / up-to-date use Internet -> Get Web browser to install your favourite.....

Hi peebee,
The 'Light' browser is good for me. I'd like to keep using it, but, is there a way to block the ads?

Sorry - don't know.... use the Pup-Advert-Blocker??

There are some [old] add-ons modified for Light:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lightf ... r%20Light/

and old Firefox add-ons might work.....

Hi Sky,
I have light setup using ublock origin, noscript and https everywhere.
Keeps the ads away (pretty much)
I archived the extensions directory and a file (info.txt) with instructions. Its 4MB
If you want to try it http://ibm-pc.org/puppy/bionic/extensions.tar.xz
md5 0b821eee7bea002b15fbe7a031dda5ed

Ublock has a warning that it can't be verified that it is compatible but it works fine.
Noscript and https everywhere do not have any warnings.

If you try it and have questions you can post here or PM me.
Anybody else too. :)

Hello,
I am attempting to set the time in lower right tray to 12 hour time.
Pupclock set doesn't seem to be activating.
How to change time to 12 hour time?

EDIT: I found it.

I post here because this is the puppy I am using. peebee should know best.

I have an old broken laptop: For a width of 3 inches from top to bottom on the right, the pixels are dead. As a result, only a part of the notification tray at the bottom is visible.

Is there a file modification that could start the tray 3 inches to the left (facing screen) of where it now starts?
TIA for your assistance.

/root/.jwmrc-tray is the config file for the tray.

The settings at the beginning of this file control tray position.
Could try to change them.
layout="vertical" will put the tray vertical along the left side of desktop.
halign="center" will place it in center.
halign="right" is used to place it vertical, on right side, when layout is set to vertical. Halign="left" is normal for all other settings.

Back up your hidden file /root/.jwmrc-tray, the one bigpup refers to -- just in case. Then open the original one for editing.

Near the top -- line 3 for me -- change the width from the default 0 (full width) to, say, 800. Save, restart your window manager, and see if you like it. Try a larger or smaller number until it looks right.

[EDIT: thanks, bigpup, for pointing out my mistake with the file name in the original post. Fixed.]

To be clear /root/.jwmrc-tray controls the tray.

/root/.jwmrc is not the file to change.

OK.
If you change the width= setting.
The halign= left or right will control the side it aligns to.

The behavior is a weird one.
It happens with the 1st opened window after boot up or after a restart of the graphical server.

... So would someone care to do a restart of the graphical server (from the shut down menu),
then open a window, say pFind
then use Alt+F2
then chose 'Move' from the menu offered.

I have found the behavior in UpupBionic, DD_Stretch-7.5, Xenial-705. All these have JWM 2.3.7
With Slacko-6.9.6.4 , which has JWM 2.3.2 , there is no crash.

Problem confirmed - need to ascertain whether this is a problem specific to Puppy and if it is a generel problem raise an issue at:
https://github.com/joewing/jwm/issues

Can't find any reference to it as a known problem....

@proebler & @peebee - this doesn't happen with ScPup64 (its standard jwm is 2.3.6; I run 2.3.7), so not an all-pup issue.

EDIT:
I'm wrong! - ScPup64-19.0x use jwm 2.3.6. Appears to be a jwm 2.3.7 issue - was compiled without fribidi in ScPup64-19.0x, but bionicpup64 has fribidi & still crashes. Strange.
