You must be doing something wrong, works for me.

It would of been better to have a way of reading a text file to put the heading in whisker, but as the original source code only looked for the logged in user name, I couldn't work out how to do that, so opted for this way of doing it.

At lest it looks better than having " root " in the heading, if your still having a problem with changing the text let me know what you want to change it to and I will do it for you.

I fixed the theme manager entry error I found in the Carolina version and also the wrong version lib dependency.

I hope you realize I've done the whisker for Carolina as that's the text you wanted changed, if so you should of posted the request in the Carolina thread.

You may have been trying to edit the wrong whisker menu as the vlina one don't run in Carolina nor did the version I just fixed, anyway hope this is what you wanted.

Shutdown issue

#525 Post by Deacon »

While trying to add dependencies to make Chrome more stable, I seem to have damaged the shutdown option in the menu.

I can still poweroff through CTRL-ATL-BKSP but what is the command for that menu item so I can see the error message it's giving?

Cha-ching

I should add that means "success" in finding the error, not knowing how to fix it. Ideas?

@Deacon,

I think it would be more than the shutdown broken, looks like the files you added have broken your save file.

if you know what you added you might be able to delete them from /initrd/pup_rw

I've had limited success fixing a save this way, else a new save file, the perils of tinkering

RE: My last post....

DON'T EVER DO THIS if the pet replaced libraries. You may open up to a world of hurt.

My apologies for my recent absence folks.

Looks like we're having sound hardware issues, CPU incompatibility, and the latest version of Chrome not working?

I think I may need to recompile glibc again ugh probably stemming from the issue we had earlier, when I missed one of the flags in a glibc dependency.

battleshooter - good to see you back on board. I look forward to any new developments!

Quick question. Sharing a folder in VG...

I right click on the folder, click "share this folder", tick the first 3 boxes, including "Do not require users to login".

Go to Windows XP, map network drive, browse doesn't see the share, it sees carolina, so I tried typing it in manually as \\carolina\share and it immediately asks for a password.

Any idea on how to get rid of the password?

Thanks p310don, I hope I'll be able to get some developments going.

Hmm... just adding notes to myself as I read through the old posts I've missed... looks like a CUPS upgrade is in order? We were discussing that at one stage.

I've also noticed on the systems I've installed Vanguard on that use wireless connections don't show the data usage. Installing a newer Frisbee over seems to do the trick, but might need to experiment with that more.

But those two are more suggestions, I think glibc is the priority as everything is build on it.

Yep. Having said that, I have installed CUPS 1.4.8 from Barry's Wary in luki and lina installations and it seems to be working fine. It can be found here:

Would definitely be worth more testing by others but it has been flawless for me.

Thanks for the tip p310don. Would be nice if that's an easy upgrade.

Hmm... I haven't been keeping up with the CUPS arguments, is there a reason we don't use CUPS 2.x in Puppy? Just curious.

I was wondering that myself. I guess the questions to ask are whether the upgrade is worth it, and how hard is it to make work?
