Hmmm only got phones at the moment...getting something with true GPS is a challenge.
Alcatels seem happy as did an LG when it came to removing software except for some items that need rooting to achieve. I just get the annoying 'google play not working' nag but the phones run much better.
Another alcatel bonus is that you can plug in as a memopry stick and download to sd cards so avoiding space limits and awful MTP etc.
Searching for 'name' plus 'apk' seems to bring up alternative sources no problem.
Perhaps a friendly phone and tips thread needed in the off topic section
