I updated the OP and gave notice here.

I repeat it now for those such as yourself who may have missed it:

Update 5/23/11

This thread is still open and to some degree still a referendum on my popularity. In light of this reality I am left with little option but to say “let the fur fly

It’s probably not a good idea to allow the average Puppy user direct access to caged malware -- too much chance of harm to themselves and others. It's a game for adults and there are few of those in the Puppy community.
Entice malware? Wait.. huh? You going to have some scantily clad software out there hoping to lure in some malware who's too busy looking at some luscious bits?
How are you going to entice software which is largely user installed? (using the win malware model)
A virtual malware "honeypot"...

Wait, this sound almost up your alley, Q5sys... AttackPup could have a more passive "don't hurt me, I'm weak" play-mode, to look for attacking outside threats... Could be interesting...
I'm actually quite curious... and I'd inquire more but I was asked to shut it. I guess my single comment to Bernie in this entire thread was too much.
Odd how my comment to him is instantly shut down but Puppyite and I go on for page after page on multiple threads and I dont get a single comment about those. oh well.

So thinking briefly about this... AttackPup could have a "Little Red Riding Hood" mode... When Little Red Riding Hood is attacked, the attacker is then tracked, analyzed, and perhaps even counter-attacked...

A friend of mine has a hardware Linux server, which can apparently respond and retaliate to port scans, etc... So this is not a particularly new concept -- but the bait and kill mode would be new...

:D Hello,
bait and kill mode
I see a few problems in that:
Sound like a blast... 8) but....
1. The obvious one...by baiting them in, you risk them being able to achieve their attack...
2. Worse, you achieve directing their attention, becoming part of their "game"...and they are really good at what they do... I dont doubt the abilities involved, hope you dont doubt theirs...
3. Howz about no "pup" references" ie "puppypc"

LOL......

It had nothing to do with you. Nothing. The moderator was on the
verge of saying Please. You pushed the submit button and
the Please word landed own you.

It could have happened to anyone. I actually thought a drastic
measure like the Please word - might really happen.

Not wanting to risk getting hit with a Please, I avoided pushing
submit in that crucial period of time.

Because I AWOL at the time. He couldn't use the Please word on
me over something I wrote 36hrs earlier.

The weather is better now, I would feel free to post, if I were you.

We all have a totally different take on it.

As I get it Q5sys you got target due to you being the nicest and friendliest and most able to respond to the Mod please.

He did not trust any of the other to respond so it was a kind of badge of honor him trusting you and you did live up to it too. So be proud.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Amazing how easily you can get a wrong impression.

When Flash said:
Q5sys, just drop it please. One of you has to be adult enough to stop this bickering. I'm volunteering you.
I just assumed he was talking about the dispute Q5sys had / has with me. In retrospect though Flash only named one person so who the other is could be anybody.

Oh, well that explains everything.

This is on topic:

[quote="puppyite"]In the OP I made the case that the wisest decision ever made was to incorporate Ubuntu software in Puppy Linux. I still believe this to be the case.

In contrast I believe that basing Puppy Linux 5.3 (or whatever next designation is) on Slackware is the worst decision imaginable.

It is a fact that who you associate with sends a signal about who you are and what you stand for. IMO associating Puppy Linux with Slackware sends a very bad message.

My opinion based on what I read is that Slackware is one of the worst if not the worst distro available. I would characterize it as a “fundamentalist distro

The following text may also be on topic:

I have followed the DistroWatch now and then and several Devs that used to use Ubuntu has now switched over to Debian. Okay Ubuntu is a kind of Debian so not a total break is it? CrunchBang comes to my mind
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distri ... CrunchBang

As I remember it was once based on Ubuntu Remix? But maybe my memory fails me.

Some have looked at arch and some say that will be too difficult for beginners.

So one possible future for Puppy would be to encourage Devs to look into why devs abandon Ubuntu and get into Debian instead.

Slackware seems very proud of being pure Slackware and them seems to look down on things like Slax and Porteus not being pure Slack!!!!

so is it not reasonable to expect that if Puppy get close to Slackware then them will see Puppy as a Slax variety and them being very upset about us?

So instead of Ubuntu I would suggest the Puppy Devs to look deeper into Debian first and then tell why Slackware is so much better and then first ask the Slackware devs if it is okay to make use of their repo.

I mean them maybe shut us out? I base that on their extremely nasty reaction when I wrote that Slax was a kind Slackware based distro.

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slax
Based on: Slackware
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=Porteus
Based on: Slackware

I got this response from a Slackware contributor.
Why do you ask this in a Slackware forum? Your question has no relevance here.

The porteus forum is the right place: this is not a forum to talk about all slackware derivatives,
There is no Porteus forum on LQ so his answer surprised me.

Yes only two responses was bad but one of them was a true Slackware Dev as I get it. So them don't seems to like that one make derivative distros of Slackware.
