TXZ_pup 4.5
Big Bass
Thanks for this Distro,it is certainly the most interesting that I have tried in the Puppy Derivatives . I was particularly impressed with Cups,I downloaded the 5 packages and installed them(magical package handler) and it found my HP5550 printer and it is the fastest printer using Gutenprint that I have used ,Gutenprint has always been slow on previously used pups.
I have had one downer. This morning when I booted up it went to the Mouse popup normally only seen on initial bootup (It is a full install) then when it got to the desktop the mouse would not function.I repeated this a couple of times without success and eventually reinstalled it .Very odd.It is a USB/PS2 mouse which has previously hung on Ouirky when using the PS2 adapter and could be activated by connecting direct USB. Unfortunately in USB direct it is sticky on Quirky Wary and this distribution. It is possibly just an old worn out mouse.
Once again for me this is the most promising Puppy so far. I have never been able to get anything with Slackware in its past to work for me and now I can get an idea of why it has survived so long.

Hi Joe
Quite some time back...(Slaxer_4.12Solid)Pakt asked if you could compile a few drivers for the Edubook
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 548#392548
I've since borked my Edubook, and since I like the direction you've taken with Slaxer_pup 4.5....I thought, I wonder if you have time to see if you could get the video and wifi drivers going, so I can test it properly on my Edubook?
Even Barry had problems
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=01395
It uses the Vortex86DX SOC chip
http://www.dmp.com.tw/tech/vortex86dx/#os
I believe Barry had to use their Kernel for his 4.32 version....but gave up
Since you use the Slackware Kernel and package management with better dependency checks,, I thought it just might go....
Here's a link to Edubook d/l site
http://www.deviceonchip.com/index.php?o ... =7:drivers
Needed are the RTL8188U? and RDC Xorg driver, as the video uses LVDS/FPD link, I believe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FPD-Link
Puppy 4.31 and 4.32 were supposed to work on Barry's Edubook versions....but I never got either Xorg or Xvesa to give me a visible screen and had to 3 finger salute out
4.12 almost ran in Xvesa, but was incredibly slow, unusually....?
It hasn't had the flash updated for the APM mod so I don't know if this may affect things
It had XP Fundamentals - a cutdown developerOEM XP, but withouit proper network support, even though the Edubook has this USB Wifi device inside it
I'd be happy to do testing, to add the Edubook to the stable of machines Slaxer_Pup 4.5 runs on.....if you'd be willing to try?
HTH, thanks
edit/update Lupu 5.11 works including a viewable video [rdc chipset]
, but recommends installing xorg_high.pet
wifi rt73usb
wired r6040pci rdc 6040 napi ethernet
If we get that going....there's always 7" Android-running 'Armed' epads....there's loads of them, all needing Puppyfying, as the updates seem to bork them too....

Thanks Joe....update
After fiddling awhile in the bios, [not sure what I changed] I got it to load to a desktop, using an external DVD player/writer...just
Video very slow
It won't let me set up a wifi network for a weird reason....the Keyboard, but I tried changing keyboard type/locale to no avail
I have no Shift/Capitalise Function, and using Caps Lock changes certain used characters to numbers, so I couldn't set the WPA key needed for my router
No wired ethernet found at all
Thanks

of course but it has to be done by understanding how linux works from packagesdinosoep
are there any plans of updating the whole kernel and packages?
not mystery packages floating in cyberspace
just a simple plain list of packages
that can be located in one place (this is linux)
not some automated thingy
that back boxes what is really happening
lets put it simply if someone was in school and copied someones work
and got a quick 100% but really never learned how to do it
using their brain
they only cheated themselves and others
we all learn something by copying at first
but we have to take that information to a new level
or we just stay stuck in a rut
cheating others is wrong cheating yourself is even worse
so this takes time to become prepared
learning and doing things right is slow
but everyday you enjoy the walk
I will have it like this run a live cd if you dont want to build anything
but if you want to reproduce the cd or modify it
just install this package list
then make a live cd of it
no smoke no mirrors
everything transparent
the learning part is part of the fun
as long as it is easy and well documented

I was asked in a pm to package an app, for this version that Joe made.
So I downloaded and giving it a test run
here's a few issues I've came across
- folder /root/Downloads is missing for firefox
- when clicking on a tar.gz and selecting "open with" there are 5 dead options, and no Xarchiver on the list and pupzip link doesn't work.
- Firefox fonts aren't set
when it first booted I had no jwm taskbar on the bottom and the rox open window had a red outline, after a couple of minutes the taskbr showed up and rox/jwm was fixed, its like it was on a extremely long delay, strange, never seen that before. But after that it worked fine
ttuuxxx
3.7MB of rox mimes, OMG joe that's just crazy, I know This a small distro to start with but, c'mon that's a lot space.
here's the latest mimes I've configured for puppy, some I made, some are gnome/gtk.
If you want to use them feel free
you might have to rename them to make them work, I haven't checked.

if you open usr/local/bin/pupzip as text and delete everything then just add these 2 lines, when you select a tar.gz and select "Open With" Pupzip it will lauch in xarchiver.
#!/bin/sh

I was compiling the latest QT4, because The app I wanted to compile, needed Qt 4 and not Qt3, So it was compiling for a bit and had a sqlite error, so I compiled the latest SQlite, Nice how it just replaces the older one with same version number

Ok I redid the Cmake so It can work with the latest QT4
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Txz-Pup ... x-i486.pet
the latest QT4 is
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Txz-Pup ... 2-i486.pet
the Dev files for QT4
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Txz-Pup ... 2-i486.pet
QComic book read <-- The requested file that took like 4+hrs to compileQt4 and figure out the Cmake issue with QT4, lol
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Txz-Pup ... 2-i486.pet
enjoy and please test the qt package/dev files so I know its okay to delete the directory, the install/new2dir scripst wasn't copying everything, so I manually had to fix all the Qt4 parts.

here's a small 1.5MB QT4 browser that needs the QT4 libs I posted above
Its a bit slow to start, but after that it runs pretty fast for browsing, youtube and gmail works with it, The first time I ran it on youtube I had to refresh the screen then it worked perfect after that.
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Txz-Pup ... 0-i486.pet
The nice thing about QT apps, you can actually just supply the libs it needs to run the app, this browser takes about 35MB of qt4 libs out of the 95MB installed files

Hey Jeff
I'll answer some of the questions and the rest later
that even makes the folders for you with the names and is very fast
that replaced pupzip I removed the icon from the desktop
when you right click on a package you get an option
htmlfix so when you click on a html file it opens in firefox
and there were some dead links in open with that get corrected with this
it puts seamonkey and firefox in the open with link
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/htmlfix-1. ... 3_SLXR.txz
here are some bug fixes from the first page of the thread
package management is a script
looks like I will have to make a menu entry also
TXZ package management menu entry
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/TXZpackage ... 4_SLXR.txz
freememapplet wont fly off the tray reverted to older
version compiled on TXZ_pup opens pprocess from tray now
freememapplet
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/freememapp ... 3_SLXR.txz
load config
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/loadconfig ... 3_SLXR.txz
geany compiled on TXZ_pup
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/geany-0.18-i486-3_SLXR.txz
epdf lib fix
removed cups so epdfview needs one dependency from cups
I wanted a clean start if you dont want cups installed
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/libcups2-1-i486-3_SLXR.txz
if you wait till it turns black then select it works
yes ,I agree thats just crazy but hey it was fun doing it I'll probally add even more
I have a lot more to say but this post is getting big so I'll do it in two parts
Thanks again .I downloaded all the packages you posted I still have to
convert them to slackware compatible packages
I have another dragNdrop script that fully automates pet to slackware
I'll post it so if you want to run any pet package you made on a slackware based distro its as easy as drag n drop no questions asked
Joe
I'll answer some of the questions and the rest later
I wrote my own tools for decompressing files called unzipper_dragNdrop5when clicking on a tar.gz and selecting "open with" there are 5 dead options, and no Xarchiver on the list and pupzip link doesn't work.

yeah I need to fix that there is a hiccup because I changed the JWM themewhen it first booted I had no jwm taskbar on the bottom and the rox open window had a red outline, after a couple of minutes the taskbr showed up and rox/jwm was fixed, its like it was on a extremely long delay, strange, never seen that before. But after that it worked fine Smile
if you wait till it turns black then select it works

everyone has something they like and I like a very extensive mime theme for ROX3.7MB of rox mimes, OMG joe that's just crazy, I know This a small distro to start with but, c'mon that's a lot space.
yes ,I agree thats just crazy but hey it was fun doing it I'll probally add even more

Hey Jeff

*if you notice my cut down devx 40MB it doesnt have qt or python installed so you can update them on the fly for that reason

yeah, its been a long time since I had qt installed
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/qt-3.3.8b-i486-3_SLXR.txz
xorg_extra_drivers * (if you need any drivers for xorg that arent installed)
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/xorg_extra ... 3_SLXR.txz
QT4 on slackware current uses
which should all be recompiled from source
slackware's qt4 is very patched 48mb man thats getting crazy
qt-<version>_<git revision> is actually KDE's version of Qt from git
that includes important patches not yet present in mainline Qt.
qt-4.6.2_2d3d3e5-i486-1.txz
for missing libpng14.so.14
libpng-1.4.2-i486-1.txz
for missing libEGL.so.1
mesa-7.8.1-i486-1.txz

qt-3.3.8bWhen I installed qt-3.3.8b-i486-2-slxr.pet this was the output.
Would be nice to have a libGLU.so.1-i486-2-slxr.pet
in stead of trying to find the missing lib in a Xorg package somewhere.

Hi Joe I posted a bit earlier that I already compiled the latest QT, its 40MB pet http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 67d#501495
It could be reduced by removing qtWebkit and adding it to another pet 19Mb extracted. Webkit is really only needed if your running a QT4 Browser.
